New Mod

Well, it's more of a personalization than a modification, since we didn't modify anything. Here's a pic of my latest cupholder/wine goblet holder, mounted where the range hood would have been. We didn't order a range hood in the 19 so we had plenty of room for this personalization.

It's held the top with [dare I say it?] VHB tape, reinforced with bolts to the top shelf and the side wall. It's stained in a MinWax Windsor Oak wood sheen finish, followed by a couple of coats of polyurethane. Under the cups and wine goblets is a strip of soft, rubbery shelf-liner.

In case you're wondering, to the right is a KES Wall Mounted Swing Arm Hook, affixed to a Red Oak escutcheon and mounted with -- you guessed it -- VHB tape. We use it for potholders.

Was that cupholder hand made or store bought? If the latter, please post your source, thanks.

Nice modification -- I really like the cup holder and the hooks.

Very impressive cup holder! Where do you get VHB tape that isn't $40?

Jim.

All home shop made of Red Oak.

And Cathy, I get my VHB tape on eBay, usually from this seller: 3M 2" x 6 ft VHB Double Sided Foam Adhesive Tape 5952 Acrylic Indrustrial Grade | eBay

Another Mod

Busy with mods today:

Here's another take off on the "Alf" Shelf. It's mounted above the door, on our 19, made out of a single cut piece of an acrylic 4 x 4 fencepost. The shelf is just the right depth for that miscellaneous pair of gloves [in the picture], a wallet, bug spray, etc. And, of course, it's held on with VHB tape.

Having never pulled a trailer, I'm wondering if the glasses in the top will say in place while you're driving. Or do you move the glasses elsewhere and put them out when you're at your campsite?

I've been told things can really move around in a trailer, so I've been wondering if things like this stay in place. As well as coats and hats on hooks and stuff like that.

Nice looking cup holders, by the way. Someone sure has some talent in the wood shop!

Thanks, Laura,

Karen designed them with enough height so that the goblets and mugs should stay in place when they inevitably bounce. The shelf liner cushion should also help. We'll road test on rough gravel this Wednesday. We've actually never had anything fall off our hooks, shelves, cabinets, etc., in 4+ years of towing Escapes.

Klaus

PS: the wine-goblets are GoVino -- acrylic

Happy to report that the wine goblet/cup holder successfully passed the shake test. After 3+ miles of rough & rutted road, the cups & glasses were all intact and in place.

Very nice work! The VHB tape is super strong, but would it pull off the "veneer" on the paneling?
I like Alf's shelf too, as there cannot be too much storage space.

Never had any problem with VHB pulling off the paneling veneer. But the goblet/ cup
holder is definitely a permanent installation. The reinforcing bolts make that a major decision.
