New tongue box
I wanted to maximize my storage space so I sloped the rear of the box to match the front on the trailer and I made "alcoves" for the WDH.
The box is a wood/metal hybrid. The lid hinges forward because it can be "parked" out of the way and doesn't need struts to hold it up.
My two Group 27 batteries, in boxes, ~just~ fit fore and aft in the center, which is great because it leaves full height storage on both sides.

Looks really good. You have gotta be a sheet metal guy by trade?

Thanks for the kind comments. "sheet metal guy", no, I just like building things, all types of things.
"Patent it". No, I'm happy to share if the design is any use to anyone. If anyone wanted to build one and someone told me how to superimpose dimensions on some photos, I'd be happy to post a few step-by-step photos. It would save some "figuring out" time and I would give a few hints about the type of materials to use.

Excellent. Any idea of the completed weight?
Is that aluminum?

Or better yet Ron, could I just send you my design?
I have been thinking of building my own to better suit my needs. Contemplated using thin fiberglass reinforced 1/8" ply using a two part marine paint to finish.

Patent it tonight! Then send these pics to Airstream. Bet you could sell them the patent tomorrow afternoon. That's one great fabrication job!

Well done. Step by step photos, dimensions, and a list of materials would be great.

No, I didn't weigh it, too much of a rush getting ready to leave for Moab in a couple of days. I usually follow Colin Chapmans' design rational "add lightness" but I was too pushed for time to reduce the weight by selectively removing unneeded material from the plywood. I could have used 1/2" plywood but I had some nice 3/4" maple so it got used. The weight difference is probably the same as the two unneeded pieces of angle iron, that used to support the battery, that I removed.
The front, back and top are 1/16" aluminum.

That is a beautiful job. You'll be at Moab? Great. Must compare boxes.
