I use a specially selected mix of 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen.
All gases change pressure with temperature, but water changing between liquid and vapour makes it much worse; improvement comes from using
dry air, not air with less oxygen. Pure
dry nitrogen would be great, but in this respect pure
dry oxygen would be just as good.
I'm happy to get "tire nitrogen" (relatively dry 98% nitrogen 2% oxygen) instead of the usual grade of the shop's compressed air when a tire store mounts a tire for me (for any vehicle), but I won't pay extra for it and I top up later with ordinary air.
The Tire Rack article is pretty good. As it suggests, infrequently used trailers might be a better target for "nitrogen" inflation than most vehicles, but I still wouldn't go out of my way for it.
