No more head banging

For your "Small But Intensely Annoying" file for trailer problems:

Since getting our 19' in July, I and my wife had both had a couple of pointed interactions with some inside corners. My head's favorite corners are the cabinets on either side of the door, especially the one on the dinette side. (Whack! Oww! *%&$#!*%!!) My wife's, the stove hood (Whack! Oww, Bruce you have to fix this!) Taking the advice of a niece with 2-year-old twins, we went to Babies R Us. I found some excellent clear plastic corner protectors for a few bucks. the adhesive was wimpy, but small flat head screws drilled from the bottom held them to the offending cabinets\ corners, and double sticky tape is working on the stove hood. Hopefully, they will at least dull the pain of the next encounter.

Re: No more head banging

Hi: Bruce Wray... My only "Bone of Contension" is my, not so funny, "Funny Bone". The original owners thought an 8" thick mattress was better in the sleeping loft of the 5.0 but it brings me 3"s closer to the O'er head cabinettes. When I roll over "Thwack"!!! Luckily it's not a sharp corner, but I wake up just the same!!! Alf

Re: No more head banging

Bruce, do you have a brand name for these bumpers, I have whacked my noggin' a couple times too and am looking for a solutions. We have no Babies R Us around here.

I would bet that many 19 owners have done this too, I know Ian Eddy gave himself a good whack the weekend he picked his 19 up too.

Re: No more head banging

There are lots of corner/edge cushion products available. Some examples are: Kid Kusion (Toddler Corner & Edge Kushions), Prince Lionheart (Cushiony Corner Guard & Cushiony Table Edge Guard), Safety 1st (Corner Edge Cushions), Dream Baby (Foam Corner Cushions), Prime Line (Corner Cushion).

All of these can be found at www.amazon.com. I'd guess that any "brick & mortar" big box store specializing in baby products would carry them as well. I'd also bet that you could find them at places like Walmart too.

Of course, another option you could consider would be wearing a football or hockey helmet whenever in the trailer

I had considered that.

We never used any of that stuff with our kids, but I will look into them.

Re: No more head banging

Wouldn't you know, I decided to get "efficient" and throw out the packaging a couple of days ago. The protectors I went with are clear plastic, about 1 1/2" on each horizontal side and 1" tall. I'd bet a bit of web trolling at Amazon or Walmart could find that kind of item.

Re: No more head banging

This is my first post. We just put down our deposit on a 19 yesterday, for a build date in January, 2012. And I'm hoping that somebody will see my question since this topic hasn't received new comments in a long time. I'm wondering if the head-banging on the cabinets on both sides of the entry door might be eliminated if the overhead cabinets stopped 6" or so further away from the door on each side. I'd rather have a little less storage than to have to add bumper devices.

Re: No more head banging

Hi rvomaha, welcome aboard. You will love the 19.

I may have actually learned a lesson, because I have not hit the corner of the cabinet in quite a while now. Even though there is lots of storage inside, I am not sure I would want to give any up, especially the handy uppers. It would likely help some to cut them back though.

Re: No more head banging

Also have a 19' Escape and have not bumped into any of the upper cabinets. Nor have I bumped my head getting out the door -- something that happened to me many times in a Casita.
