That is nice to mix the walnut and white. I really like that big window though! No little dinky window for you.

Painted my sons kitchen cabinets in preparation to selling the house a year ago, they had a nasty very aged dark brown stain on them. Took a lot of time to prep and paint, but it came out very nice and sold in just a couple days. I used Advance from Benjamine Moore.

If it were me, I'd go look at a Bigfoot.

Hopefully ETI will someday allow the purchaser to choose the type , door style, and finish that they desire in cabinets.
At that point the waiting period for a new trailer will be over two years but won't the anticipation be grand.

Chuck and Deb, former Escape 19' owners, have 21' Bigfoot. The cabinetry is white pickled oak. I really, really like the look. Since the woodwork is stained, rather than painted, the grain shows and breaks up the flat look of just white cabinets. It's also bright, clean looking and makes the space appear that much bigger. It would have been my choice in Ten Forward had it been available. I'm not unhappy however. It's far more about where I go, what I see/do and the memories made. My trailer is just the "container" to get me there.

"No" to leaving the oak unfinished, or "no" to using a material other than oak? I wouldn't blame them for declining to use another material. It would complicate their production. You'd think leaving the wood unfinished would actually save them time and materials, though. I'll ask.

That vinyl facing on the plywood part of the cabinets concerns me most. Afraid that paint might dissolve it or loosen whatever the adhesive is that keeps it on the plywood.

Given your strong feelings about the interior wood look of Escapes, have you looked into Oliver trailers yet? No worries about any wood look inside an Oliver.

I like the wood grain look in our 19'. It provides good contrast to the cream colored vinyl that ETI uses on the walls and ceiling. However, when I was getting my build list together, I did ask Escape if there were any other options for color besides the natural oak finish (I was hoping for maybe a birch finish). I do like the oak so I wasn't overly disappointed to hear from ETI that the oak was to be our only choice. Because of all of the little trim pieces, oak plywood, and oak cabinet doors used in each trailer, it would require quite a concerted effort from ETI to give alternative interior finishes to their clients as options. Maybe in 20 or 30 yrs "if" the interior of my Escape is all beat up and wearing out from all of the partying we do during retirement, I may decide at that time to swap out the interior color for something more psychedelic.

Seeing they do none of the wood finishing themselves, I would highly doubt it. The panels have a finish film on them when they get them, and the cabinet doors and drawer fronts are sourced out in a shop that does production runs on their standard sizes, then finishes them all the same.

If you want an Escape, and can't stand the oak finish, your ONLY solution would be to paint them once you take possession. Otherwise (and I hate saying this), you will need to search out other manufacturers.

The one thing I like best with the standard finishes in Escape trailers is the vinyl wall colour. When looking at options with the flooring, laminate and fabric, there was lots of stuff that did not work with the oak, but almost everything worked with the walls. It is a lovely warm colour, very light and bright, and not pure white.

Hi: Float5... Thanks. That big window is our bird watching window. It's an awning style replacing a double hung style... eliminating the cross bar. Only six more to go!!! Alf

I'll go with the wicker bottom chianti bottle with multi-colored crayon drippings down the side.

I wasn't too thrilled with the color of the cabinets when I first saw them, but they don't bother me after I've gone out to our trailer multiple times. It also helps that I added a nifty backsplash to the kitchen area with Peel & Stick tiles, so it gives a really different look to the trailer.

I do understand your dislike of the look though. We were the same way when we first started viewing trailers, at RV shows and dealer lots. Brown is the (current) preferred color on most of the rigs and it drove us nuts as we detest brown. I was trying to figure out furniture covers and ways to cover up any brown inside. Then I was steered towards fiberglass trailers and after much research I'm getting ready to leave Sunday for my first outing in our new trailer.

Yay!

Anyway, I'd suggest you ask ETI for a sample of their woodwork. Several samples, if you can. That way you can play around with some paint on your own and see what you like and what works on it. If you're going to plunk down the moolah for a 5.0TA, you really need to do this before ordering. I do see that they're almost booked up for the year for this particular trailer, so I wouldn't wait too long to test out some samples and decide.

Good luck with your decision!

when this camper was a teen (a long time ago) , very briefly worked on an assembly line making furniture. That day they were making a 4 drawer chest from scratch...400+ in one 8 hour shift...worked there one day and that is the day this camper learned the word "fake" to describe wood cabinets. Since then a house full of furniture and not a single piece of furniture that is not solid hardwood (zero veneer), but the bubble has burst as rv trailers appear to have different wood cabinet construction with weight and fabrication cost being perhaps some of the primary issues. Having said that not all wood cabinet construction is the same in rv trailers, and where possible one might be able to rip out a portion and have it rebuilt to ones taste and level of quality by a third party pro.
At the other end of the rv spectrum, being in the sanitarium white of an Oliver trailer interior one might appreciate a little wood grain of any type for some warmth. That's one nice thing about the Casita fiberglass/wood combination interior IMHO.

Mi Esposa is not fond of Oak either, so I understand the OP's opinion. We had to go with Maple cabinetry in our house which was the only other choice they had. I gotta say I really like the Maple much better now myself.
Scamp Trailers, has for quite awhile offered Oak or Birch in their deluxe builds and, in my opinion, the Birch is really nice looking. They also recently started offering Cherry cabinet doors in the standard models as an option. The Cherry looks very nice against the white fiberglass cabinets.
From this topic coming up several times in the past I don't think wood choice is going to be on ETI's plate. At least anytime soon as they are deep in the move and facility changes.

If one truly wants an Escape trailer and finds oak cabinets that repugnant, then have a cabinet shop replicate the factory cabinets in the desired finish , remove the factory oak cabinets and replace them with the cabinets you had built . I cannot fathom going through that much time , effort and expense but then again this whole discussion does exist so maybe it make sense to others.
Life is a compromise at least for me and I learned as a child that you can't always have what you want.

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colours anymore, I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and they're all painted black
With flowers and my love, both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a newborn baby, it just happens everyday
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and must have it painted black
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the setting sun
My love…
