I'm not sure if I'm reading your comments correctly, but I'll give it a shot.

The table slides are not plywood. They're a sort of plastic channel, mounted on a plywood base and on the backside of the table top.

Replacing the sockets/poles with the telescoping pedestal consists of removing the sockets from the plywood table base and from the floor, mounting the new pedestal to the floor and then mounting it to the same table base. The slides still work.

You could probably "upgrade" the slides by removing/replacing them with the metal slides used as drawer guides. I've seen some examples of those here on the forum. I just used the original plastic ones.

In my case I experimented with the single pedestal location and adjusted it slightly to give more room along the back - since I have a U-shaped dinette. If you have the stock table, it'll still work, but you have to mount it to take the inward slope of the outer wall into account as you lower the table.

I have the telescoping pedestal table with the original slide. I like it because my table slides and i can rotate it so it can slide side to side or back to front giving me more versatility in positioning. I also had the back corners cut off like the front corners to aid in sliding into a seat.

I'm not sure if you are getting a standard or u-shape dinette. The pedestal table is one of the only things we would consider changing on ours but at the time we didn't even know these existed. Here's a great post from Doug (of Team Toto)
