Yes, it is my toaster over, which I'm thinking will be deep sixed, I think it has been used 4 times in the past 3 years and takes up a lot of "shoe" space. Each year I try to go thru and eliminate or add items I feel is needed, I guess due to the micro the toaster oven is not needed.

Looks like a very clean install and should keep the trailer nice and warm.

Just wondering for those of you that have an air conditioner, would a heat strip in the AC provide a similar amount of heat? Are there advantages to the stand alone heater versus the heat strip in the AC.

I have the heat strip in the a/c, yes it takes the chill off, but you have to turn on the roof top unit and the fan blows across a 5200 btu electric element. Very noisy and it has no thermostat.
This new unit is thermostatically controlled and whisper quiet, you leave it on continuously and it works silently.

I also have the heat strip, but as Jim says it is very noisy without great results, I have a small little electric space heater that is almost silent and puts out great heat, havn't used it in reallly cold weather yet but I probably would not bother with a heat strip again.

Thanks for the information on the heat strip and a/c. Can I assume from your comments that the a/c is somewhat noisy when in use?

Yes, the sound is equal to having the a/c on in the summer

Hi Jim

I put one of these heaters in my 2005, 17B, see the post here, http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f8...ater-1006.html I too put in a switch to toggle from 500 to 1000 watts but found that using the 500 watt element only didn't give out enough heat. Also, I found that using the built in thermostat made the heater cycle on and off all the time and ended wiring in a wall thermostat.

When I had my 5.0 built I had Reace cut an opening and pre wire for a heater and thermostat and installed one especially made and approved for RV's. These heaters work excellent and I can't understand why more trailers don't have them as an option; especially when they are used in the States as so many state campsites have hookups.

We spend about 50% of our time boon docking but when we have hookups really appreciate having the elec. heater.

Any pictures of your 5.0 heater install? I haven't used mine yet in re: heat out put, but I got tired of using the little cube heaters and this one is so quiet. I got the idea from my other fg camper I had, an all electric EggCamper which had this type of heater. In that scene, I missed having propane for those non electric sites. Nice having a choice or even both if necessary.

We read this post with great interest last spring , and intended to install one of the " King Wall Heaters" - think it's great . But on trying to buy one we found that they need 8" clearance to the floor and in our Escape 15 that would not work in our location of choice ( under the closet door ) .... but Like CPAHarley we found a Broan 174 ( almost the same as the 170 ) that does not need more than 6 " clearance to the floor which works out perfectly . Although it is not installed yet ( to cold - spring job ) we did test it and found it to be whisper quiet . Really appreciate this idea - thanks .

What is the make and model of heater you had installed?

Here are a couple of pictures of the 5.0 install. This particular unit only needs 4" clearance to the floor and 6" to a side wall.

Do you recall the model number you put in the 17B? I couldn't pinpoint it from the King site based on just your photo.

It appears the model you chose for your 5.0 install would have also worked in the 17B, yes?

This is the unit I used in the 17B (Model #1210); it only requires 4" clearance to the floor as noted at the bottom of the page in the center. I guess I should have put a model number on the post to clear up any confusion! Sorry.
