You can see I am a novice poster. I was trying to ask a question attached (I thought) to Jim's post of 09/02/12 about RV rain gutters purchased from Camping World. Sorry for any confusion.

The only supplier we found for King Heaters here in Calgary was Lowe's . The model they were willing to bring in was the one with 8" clearance to the floor . So we went ahead and got the Broan 174 . We really do appreciate your original post - had never crossed our minds that one could find an electric built in - we really prefer that for heat . Also love - love -love your photos . Thanks

Jim, I like your installation of the Broan heater and am considering doing the same in my 19' Escape.
In reviewing the Broan 170, the instructions state to mount the unit at least 6" from the floor. The unit is 9-1/4" and the Escape bench is 15" tall. It appears from your pictures that you mounted the unit centered between the floor and the top of the bench. How far from the floor did you mount the unit? Have you experienced any trouble given the sizing? Thanks!

For tighter spots, the King PAW 1215 uses a 12 1/2" x 6" box, and can be mounted 4" off the floor. Click on photo for link.
HERE is the installation manual for it.

I have not experienced any problems, perhaps the manufacturer was referring to carpet, but the vinyl floor has nor melted yet.

Jim, that's good to know. Also, you you center the heater mid-way between the floor and the top of the bench?

I built a frame of 1x4 wood that is screwed to the existing bench frame and the heater is then screwed to the frame. I wanted some extra support due to the size of the hole and this frame should help reinforce the area around the hole.

Sorry, it should have read: "Also, did you center the heater mid-way between the floor and the top of the bench?"
I didn't see any way to edit the post, so I just made this correction

If you do not have the opening cabinet option at the end of the dinette, that place would be a better location (I have the door, otherwise that is where I'd mount the heater) because it faces the door which is a cold point in the trailer. I'm surprised Escape does not insulate the door, it is hollow and could easily be drilled and filled with foam. Another modification on my list to do.....

Jim, like you I have the opening cabinet door. Sure is a handy and useful option.

Insulating the door - what an obvious improvement. Looking forward to your project report!

I need to find a spray foam that does not expand, drill some holes on the inside sides and experiment. Anyone have suggestions? The top part and bottom appear to have maybe 1" uninsulated space between the two inner/outer panels. With the window being double paned, the rest of the uninsulated part gets cold.

Follow up report on wall heater. Today the temperature is high 29/low of 11 degrees(F) and tomorrow will be high 14/low of 6 degrees(F) with wind gusts 20-30 mph and snow squalls. Wind chills below -0- . The furnace is on 60 degree setting(digital) and the electric wall heater is on low(500 watts) and the furnace has only been on 4 times in past 24 hours, maybe one hour total run time. Kitchen window cracked and MaxxAir open slightly. With it being so cold, inside of 65 feels really warm. The heater is really quiet and it is safe to leave on all the time. The dogs love it because the floor now is the warmest place.
I installed Reflectix on the front window between the stone cover and the glass, no condensation has appeared. I also cut and installed a piece 16" doubled over into 8" double thickness around the mattress exterior sides against the outside walls. No condensation has shown up yet in that location. Will report again when I return home later this week

Winter Camping
I'm not a hunter or an ice fisher so I'm not exactly sure why anyone would want to go camping in the winter. It seems to me that most of the day and night would be spent trying various ways to keeping warm.
I prefer spring, fall, and mainly summer camping. That's when I can pull out the sun chairs and a good book and relax in the shade with a cold beer and watch the grand kids play. 8)
I dunno, maybe I'm just getting....
