I found a large uncovered piece of fiberglass in that area and wanted to mitigate any temperature differential, nothing to do with performance of refer but more for preventing condensation in that area in the winter.

If you push in the tab on the light and slide forward two pieces will extend and allow the refer door stay cracked to allow storage.
On the control panel bottom are 2 screws, remove and slide it out and look inside.

Hi Jim ,
I myself have been think that after Reace finally nails down what is need to better optimize the performance of our Dometic 6.7 refrigerator. That I am going to remove the fridge and better Insulation the inside walls of the refrigerator compartment. We are now on a short five day camping trip and have found that our digital thermostat for the HVAC which is mounted on the bed side panel of the refrigerator is being affected by the heat being produced by the refrigerator. This is not a big issue but it's just something that kind of bugs me so I want to fix it.

Aah, yes, that wall was reinforced in my 19 for a magazine rack, never noticed any heat from refer, course most of the time it was on 120v so heat should have been minimal .

Thanks for the latch trick Jim. I would have never known about that. I also pulled the control panel off and have the same open space on top of our 4.3. It is sealed in the back with the rubber gasket ETI installs so I dont see much heat getting in there. Think I will wait and see what Reace comes up with for a fridge fix and probably insulate that whole area then. I did find where the sensor wire plugs in if the should end up needing changed.

Jim, Tom & Cheryl,
I've been in that area above the fridge of our 6.7 a few times. Once for running the com cable to the surge protector remote indicator I mounted above the fridge and other times to check on the heat that could be accumulating in that area. I was concerned about the heat because there's no way for it to escape except through the cracks around the fridge control panel out the front into the trailer. I never found any heat buildup and, I like I said, I checked multiple times. The top of the fridge doesn't get hot at all, so I don't know what insulating it would do for the operation.
Tom
PS: Please ignore the temps indicated on the temp indicator. It's indicating the temp on another fridge that's in range that I just deiced and is coming down to temp.

Tom in Tennessee, I had the same setup in my 19 and I wanted to seal that open space in the rear to prevent cold and hot air from this area. I believe I cut a piece of the same pipe insulation and slid it along the refer top to the back. It was snug enough where it held. You can also reach up from the open lower outside refer vent to check on your job.
Tom in Washington,
Did you notice any exposed fiberglass over your refer? That is the reason I wanted to seal off my area, to prevent any cold penetration.

I purchased a small little retro 12v fan to use when the MaxxFann is not in use. It is made for trucks and has a small footprint, I mounted it on a small piece of cedar. Also a picture of the plastic wheel chocks in use, I shortened the threaded bolt and they work fine, upside down. Anyone want to buy some B@l X Chocks- slightly used- real cheap??

Jim, I didn't notice any exposed insulation over the refer. I can open it up again today and pay a little more attention to the surrounding area. I"ll get back to you.

Yes, on mine there was a 12" x 6" piece of missing insulation and the fg shell was exposed. Looks like they removed a piece and then decided to cut elsewhere and did not replace the reflectix. No big deal but I felt it may make it colder than normal and wanted to stop any cold drafts.

Jim, I almost purchased the same retro fan at an auto parts store, but put it back. Is it whisper quiet as they state? I have two other fans, plastic, and the DC one is noisy. I'd like to replace that one for a quieter one.

It is quiet on the low speed, not on high. Available at Amazon

Actually I have a bookmark and every purchase helps the ASPCA, did you know you can specify a donation? http://smile.amazon.com
As a stay at home caregiver, I do a a lot of on line purchases due to being housebound if I'm not away camping.

Jim, I opened up the area above the refer and find that there is no insulation on the roof as you've reported. Do you think that was intentional or an oversight?

I do not know, there was some in my area, where the white ceiling covering ended it had been cut for some reason. My area is over by the refer ceiling vent thru the roof. Either way you can stick some up there if you want or just seal the area at the front instrument panel like what I did. I do not think it will do any harm uninsulated. It does not seem to affect the freezer temperature any.

Jim, I also have some white ceiling covering material in that area that was cut off. I'm sure it was just quick and easy during construction to leave it that way. It's not intended to provide insulation.
