Questions about rain gutter install
What's the best method of installing rain gutters above the windows? Do you wax the fiberglass before install to help protect the finish or install without waxing to get better adhesion of the glue on the back of the rain gutters?

I believe the instructions call for cleaning the area with alcohol to remove the wax and allow better bonding. Be careful, once it sticks, it can not be moved. I used a tape measure, cut the piece, marked the center of the piece. I installed from center of the window out to each corner, bending down to allow water run off. When done, take an old toothbrush or similar hard item and push along the seam. You can also reverse install them around the refer vent to give it a finished molding look while also keeping water out. Likewise for the w/h vent. I also installed 2 short straight pieces on the roof by the awning to keep water from dripping down at the awning ends.

Did you actually put them on the fiberglass or on the black trim around the window? We have the black stuff so thought it would be less noticeable on the window frame.
We put some on last year ---the side on the escape window didn't go on properly so when it warms up we'll put more on.. I think we only had it on for one trip and it did make a difference--nice not to have water dripping on the pillow...

Installed the white on the whit fiberglass, along the metal window trim. Black would be the same, I think the fiberglass has better cohesive qualities than the metal window trim.

Th e question that begs to be asked is why we need to modify a brand new trailer of
this quality. I am taking delivery of a 19ft. this month. Do I need to go out and install
rain gutters once it arrives ?

Wait until you have some experience with you Escape TT before making mods. The rain gutters divert water from the sliding windows which are subjected to a stream of water channeled by the awning on one side of the trailer and the egress slider window that does not have drain channels. There are multiple mods that can enhance the standard RV trailer components installed by ETI. Make the mods as you perceive the need.

Hi: robertg... I've had a gutterless Escape 5.0 since 2008 and never felt the need to add them. The choice is yours. Alf

Radius corner windows can be problematic when it comes to rain on ALL brands of all molded towables. It's not an Escape-only issue. I agree with the others, wait... then decide for yourself.

Hi Robert,
It's a matter of preference and in no way reflects on the quality of escape trailers.
If you were to ask my wife, she would tell you that I'm a lost cause and that I can't help myself. I should find a good 12 step program
Regards,
David.

When I do Blackjack, I'll post some more, it has to be warmer to make it easier to install.

I believe most of the black steaming comes from under the windows due to dirt being washed by the rain. So, if you can help keep some water off your windows, then yes you will diminish your black streaks with the gutters.
