When my wife and I toured a 5.0TA in Escapes' yard, I specifically sat up on the bed to see whether my head would hit the ceiling, and there was no head to roof contact. I am about 6' 3" tall when standing. My conclusion was that if I ever did go to a 5.0TA, I would have adequate headroom for sitting up in bed reading if I so desired. I did find that I would have needed sufficient pillowing to allow a comfortable repose against the front wall.

Sitting up in bed was not my concern, Dave. It was being able to sit up against the wall at the head of the bed, which can't be done.

When are you getting your 5.0TA on order?

What works for us is a roll pillow under the neck and a head lamp while lying in bed before sleep. Headlamp lets partner sleep without bright lights - unless you look over…. :-) Pretty simple.

I use a backlit Kindle so no need for lights on. We usually use the bed backrests like someone showed earlier because they are also perfect in the Udinette for lounging.
Got the captains lights as well in bed and dinette. Love them.

I didn't really think about the fact that my Kindle is backlit, guess I did not really need one on that end after all. Oh well, I'm sure it will still come in handy.

I dislike reading on a tablet too. I have one of the original Kindles though, and I don't mind reading from it at all. It's not backlit, and the page looks like paper. Of course, you need light to read by.

I know on Lisa's tablet she has now, you can do the background black, and the letters white. I wonder how that would be. Might have to give it a try.

I've found glowing tablets are not good for reading books, but the Kindle is phenomenal. I do all my library book checkouts through digital to the Kindle and when the book is due to be returned it just returns itself digitally. No fines, no having to go to the library to checkout or return, very awesome system. I also subscribe to a free books list for Amazon and have amassed well over 1000 books for when we go full-time. All in a tiny little device that doesn't take up storage in the trailer.

You're breakin' my heart, here! My entire career has been in bookselling, and it's just tragic to witness the demise of independent bookstores, even the demise of what had been larger bookstore chains. Probably grist for another mill, and another day, but had to chime in.

I love to read in bed and we have bed pillows like the picture earlier in the thread. They work really well and are available in a wide variety of colours to match your decor. They keep you from leaning against the blinds and window and provide support.
I love real books, but take my kindle paperwhite camping because I can put so many books on it and have choices. I used to read on my iPad, but the screen glare is horrible for reading - the kindle is so much better.

Had to ask santacruzer... can you name a couple of your favorite non-fiction books? My reading pile is empty at the moment

Happy to oblige! Here are four:

Makos: A Higher Call
Makos: Devotion
Meacham: Destiny and Power

and, for the vagabond in you,

William Least Heat Moon: Blue Highways

Look 'em up on Amazon, but buy 'em from a local independent bookseller if you can.

I agree with JaneM I do all of my non-work reading on a Kindle paper white ad it is so much better than my IPAD or computer

Some links for you and others who may get use of them:

700 Free Audio Books: Download Great Books for Free | Open Culture

https://librivox.org/search?primary_...rm=get_results

https://www.youtube.com/user/audiobooksfree

How do I download and save a YouTube video to my computer?

https://archive.org/details/oldtimeradio

save yourself some money here and there :} Yes they are legit public domain stuff no longer copyrighted etc. Sometimes you can find people who have collected complete show series selling the collection on dvd for cheap money to save yourself the downloading time and such. I do not know if that is legit though it is done on ebay all the time

A couple more traveling books - Steinbeck's Travels With Charlie and Jack Kerouac's On The Road.

And while not non fiction, another "road" book well worth reading is Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

2X on buying them at your local independent bookstore.
