Yes, and instead of adding framing an "old work" box can be used, which clamps or screws into the wall/cabinet panel like the SCD (but usually more securely, and with more effort). I've spent some time looking for suitable old work boxes, and for some situations have found no really good solution. The better-built metal old work boxes are several dollars each, which is no big deal for a few needed in a trailer, but much more expensive than more common styles.

Your items draw too much to be used with 12V? We had Escape add a couple more 12V/USB outlets and we find them very handy.

I added a combo outlet in front of the counter. It is much more convenient both for cell phones as well as coffeemaker.

The combo outlets are probably going to be pretty inefficient because of the double-conversion (DC12V->AC120V->DC5V). Not enough to matter if you're on shore power, but if you're planning on doing a lot of boondocking you might care.

If you're on battery power, these outlets don't work at all unless you have an inverter. If you do have an inverter, then when on battery+inverter there is that extra conversion which will cost a few percent in efficiency: 12V DC -> 120V AC -> 5V DC
If you're on shore power... - there's no double conversion with the "combo outlets": 120V AC -> 5V DC
- there is double conversion with adapters in 12V outlets: 120V AC -> 12V DC -> 5V DC (which isn't important)

when did they start using the new type of outlet? We have a 2016 19 classic. Does it have the new style of outlets or are they just on the new models?

One needs to inspect their own trailer o determine which type they own. Mine was made in September 2016 and have the new style. If you remove the outlet cover and then look at the rear of the outlet as to how the wires are attached, it can easily be answered.

You may not even need to remove the cover... conventional devices have cover plates which are held on by visible screws (one in the middle of a traditional duplex outlet; two for a light switch or any Decora style device), but at least the most common brand of these Self-Contained Devices have snap-on cover plates.

Good catch Brian, my response was while I was slap happy from returning home from Osoyoos in 3.5 days. Now I'm as close to normal as I'll ever be...
