Retractable shower door

Has anyone installed a retractable shower door in their escape trailer? If so - was it difficult to install and does it work? Thanks for your help. Dan

Are you talking about replacing the bathroom door or putting one inside the bathroom to cordon off the toilet area? I can tell you in a 5.0TA there isn't room to do that.

I've looked into installing a Newline retractable shower screen in lieu of the bathroom door. Thing is, the way the door mounts, I'm not sure it's possible. I have received a bunch of installation documents from Newline, but I haven't really looked at them closely enough to determine if it's possible. I love the idea however. I'm going to have to take a closer look sometime, as well as take some measurements.

The one I'm looking at is called a SHUB, and supposedly its designed for smaller RV bathrooms. Here's an installation PDF for those who are interested. I think the biggest installation issue is that it's designed to butt up against the side walls of a tub/shower enclosure, not to mount on a door frame.

Donna, I was referring to one that would replace the shower curtain while allowing the particle board door to remain in place. Dan

Okay, then that's a "no," I don't know anyone that's done it. Do you want to be the first and document with lots of pictures?

I also looked at the Shub and determined that I would have to use a spacers along the Shub frame to clear the protruding belly band of the escape shower enclosure. (Or possibly notch the belly band to accommodate a flush mount of the Shub frames) I wondered if anyone had done this and how difficult/successful the effort was.

The door isn't particle board.
When I take an infrequent shower in my 17B, I drape part of the shower curtain over the toilet seat. The rest covers the bath door.

IMHO the 5.0TA (and 19') bathroom is small enough, especially with a sink, I wouldn't consider "walling off" part of it. Using a shower curtain to cover the toilet, at least it can be pushed back to give room for the elbows. And, it's narrow, so you're making the area where you sit to do business, even smaller But if you decide to proceed, I'll watch with interest.

My idea was using the retractable screen as a door replacement - not to just replace the shower curtain. Sort of like a pocket door, but mounted inside the door edge. It would make getting into and out of the bathroom in the 19 more convenient, because the door doesn't open out into the kitchen. If it could be used in lieu of the shower curtain, that's just a bonus to me.

with a narrow aisle sort of wondered why the door is not a slider, especially since there is a curtain inside. One downside to a slider on the outside is it would cover the area to the right of the opening when open precluding hanging things there.

But an accordion door would not....

yes that would be cool...when this camper went to the rv show..saw a lot of really neat shower areas and "libraries"..just depends on how much space one wants to allocate to something that is used intermittently.

Having so often read one thing or another about getting the toilet wet while showering , I wondered why hasn't someone come up with a toilet cover - something to just slip over the toilet . While we do not have a bathroom in our 15 - we have had flush toilets in past rv's . This would not be a difficult pattern to cut , and construct ( in a vinyl/poly ) . Easy to slip on , hang out to drip off when done .

Great idea Gabi, and since you are so good with those awning panels, you should make a toilet prototype and bring to the rally, you may be able to make some $$ on the side. G&W Covers we take the wet out of your bath

When you take a shower that is how the toilet and behind and under the toilet gets a good cleaning. If you cover it all up then at some point you have to specifically clean the toilet and surround.

Oh gosh Jim , if I had a toilet handy , I might be inclined to make a prototype, but as for the rest of your suggestion - you've got to know by now that retirement really doesn't allow enough time for a new start up ..........not sure W knows how to thread a machine , that wouldn't work anyway . But thanks for trying to find me more work .....lol

Like Greg, we use it as an opportunity to clean the toilet, although Deb does get mad when I use the wash cloth to do so.
