Rock chip damage

I searched for this topic and couldn’t find anything, so “sorry” in advance if this has been answered a bunch of times. I’ve ordered the 5.0 TA and was wondering if there is a problem with gravel flipping up and chipping the trailer? The 5.0 seem particularly vulnerable because the hitch, and propane tanks offer some protection on other models. If it’s a problem, what are people doing to protect their 5.0. Larger mud flaps? Clear Bra? Other? Thanks again.

Well. yes it happens, I've got a number of them on the outer lower front, pretty much from the vertical frame out. The only thing I did was add mud guards to the rear wheels on the truck, doesn't seem to have gotten any worse then it was before I added them.

I have repainted the lower side to side frame member with POR15 and Topcoat which doesn't seem to chip like the original paint.

You can have the 3m Scotchguard vinyl film installed if you want.

I figure if it ever bothers me enough I'll have the front coated with spray on bed liner, same with the wheel wells.

I think there is a vinyl film product for frames too.

After I take possession of my 5.0 and before heading home. I will be installing the Tracwrap by XPel, which is there temporary film product. I will apply it to the front outer corners outside the upright frame supports and two foot section from bottom, which is typical area you see rock chips.

When I get home my local dealer who is an XPel dealer/installer will apply XPel film for permanent installation. Based on what I've read it seems to be better product than 3M film and has a self healing property to prevent scratches and swirl marks. I'm looking at the Ultimate for tow vehicle and Armor version for 5.0TA.

With my previous Casita I had the Rock Tamer mudflaps that attached to the receiver and would not buy those again as I did not see a difference with or without. The difference I did notice was the weight and bulk they added.

Regardless what you do, nothing is going to totally eliminate or prevent rock chips. Keep in mind it's not just what your tires kick up, but also what passing or oncoming traffic flings at you as well.
