Seeking tips for installing an exterior antenna
Hi,
I swear I've searched like crazy but I haven't found (yet) the guidance I'm looking for. I'm wanting to install one of those Wilson (now WeBoost) Sleek cellphone amplifiers and antenna.
I think I'm generally up to the task, but I'm not sure of the best location for the antenna, and don't know the best approach for making a hole for the connecting cable to run through. Are there through-hull fittings" for eggs like ours? Or is there a different / better method?
I plan to wander aimlessly amongst the Escapes this May in Osoyoos to get ideas, but in the meantime, thanks for any light you can shed.
Doug

Here is a link to a review of an Oliver trailer with the antenna installed, he does a description of it from the exterior and interior Wincrasher's Travels: Video Review of the Oliver Legacy Elite II

It's not specific to the Escape, but here's how I did it on our Scamp. Perhaps you can leverage the concept.

The feed through cable clamps on the left side of this link are the ones I use (and Escape used for my antenna). I bought mine at a real electronics store.
As to location, I put mine on the driver's side, so it would be out of the way of the awning & less likely to be nailed by roadside brush or trees.
There are a couple of photos that include the antenna on my Trailer Modifications page.

Couple of good options there from Jon and John. I think I am screwing up the courage to... order parts! Baby steps. Thanks all!

Doug, the trucker antenna I purchased was a roof mount, but they also sell spring mounts designed to be mounted on the side or clamped to a window frame. If you want to install the roof mount, all you need is to drill about a 1/4" hole. The mount comes with a roof side and interior side washer and gasket. You could also add a bit of sealant on the roof side before tightening it down. As for location, I suggest the entry point be placed inside one of the overhead cabinets like ETI did for ours. I'll post a photo of the mount from the inside.

Thanks, Robert, that looks pretty straightforward! The pics really help. But wait, you're supposed to be enjoying your grand journey, even if it is with a darkened fridge. :-) Thanks a heap for the info.
