Re: Shelf versus "cubby" with door
Vermilye -- (is it Jon?) ...
We talked to Tammy today and asked about a 12V outlet that would reside on the outside panel of the overhead storage compartment, facing the shelf over the dinette. She wasn't sure that this would be within code and is checking with Reace. Where is yours exactly? Are you by chance able to post a pic?
Thanks,
~e

Re: Shelf versus "cubby" with door
Yes, its Jon.
Mine is facing out centered in the panel between the left hand front compartment & the front of the trailer. Specifically, 5 1/2 inches up from the shelf and centered on the width of the shelf (4 1/2" forward of the edge of the front cabinet opening. Here is a Photo:

Thanks, Jon -- you Escape people go above and beyond the call!
I'll send the photo to Tammy tonight, greatly appreciated. It seems like that's a very helpful location for an extra.

Re: Shelf versus "cubby" with door
My 12V outlet at the front of the 17B is into the side of the wardrobe, next to the standard AC outlet. I put my Sirius radio dock and/or the Altec Lansing iPod dock on top of the wardrobe when camped.

Re: Shelf versus "cubby" with door
I had it installed to power a cell phone amp & WiFi Ranger router. I use a 1 to 3 splitter to plug them all in.

Re: Shelf versus "cubby" with door
One thing to keep in mind is that a place like The Source or Radio Shack ( does that still exist? ) carries a wide selection of power cords and adapters.
I've got 12V extension cords and splitters so I can plug in two devices and run cords out the door or window to wherever I need a temporary solution. I've got the same in audio cords ( splitters and extension cords ). I can, for instance, run audio to two head-sets, from the 7" DVD player.
And, these are cheap.

Medora,
You might want to have lights put in the upper cupboards, they are dark and hard to see in.

'Tis true. But, I'd like them to be activated and turned off, by opening and closing the cupboard door.
I've installed Sylvania Dot.It lights inside a couple cupboards. They are powered by AA batteries. No wiring. But, of course, the light they emit is usually blocked by packaged goods, a box of Kleenex, or by my own hand.
My best advice? Drill no holes.

Re: Shelf versus "cubby" with door
Tammy told us the story yesterday of someone who burned their clothes in the wardrobe after installing one of those wee little lights ... Hmm! En fuego!! I imagine it'd get pretty pricey to have them install proper lights in all those cabinets, no?

Re: Shelf versus "cubby" with door
I installed LED strip lighting in my cabinets - See the second post in This Thread. I used switches rather than having them activate by opening the door because I often leave the doors open to normalize the temperatures inside the cabinet with that in the trailer. With all the doors open the lights would draw more than I'd like on the batteries, and it would keep me up at night!
The lights don't get hot enough to ignite anything and are well out of the way since they are attached to the frame above the door.

Re: Shelf versus "cubby" with door
I'm with Baglo - I like the stick on little LEDs - no drilling of holes that I can avoid and I can easily change my mind about them.
