Shower curtain
Has anyone installed a shower curtain in the 19?

This is one lonesome thread, so...
Even though mine is a 17B, so I'm not strictly on topic...
The shower curtain that comes with the trailer is very basic. I thought about replacing it with something more decorative. Since the trailer is called Toad, I found shower curtains with a toad motif online. They cost $75 plus shipping.
Thought about how much time I or anyone else spends looking at the shower curtain and decided to save my money.

For those who haven't seen the bathroom in person yet...the 19 comes with a very thin, white shower curtain. It is too long and bunches up some at the floor, especially next to the toilet where the floor of the bathroom steps up. The shower curtain is also wider than it needs to be, and all that extra plastic tends to accumulate water that takes some drying time post-shower.
The shower curtain is an absolute necessity because without it water runs down the inside of the bathroom door and out onto the floor of the aisle. From there it heads toward your husband's socks where he is sitting at the dinette. Wink, wink.
On our current trip, the shower curtain tore through the hanging hole at its front edge. So I sliced off a vertical strip of the curtain about 6 inches wide and now there's a fresh hanging hole at the front. As the next holes gradually tear away, I'll be slicing off more of the curtain until we have the narrowest width of shower curtain that still functions well. Eventually I guess we'll purchase a new curtain with reinforced holes and trim it to size from the start.

Robin didn't like the very thin, minimal shower curtain either. When we looked at it, we realized that the sliding mechanism at the top was unique to our Escape and not easily duplicated at the Shower Curtain Store. She bought another that was designed as a replacement for your home shower. To install it, she cut the top off the original equipment curtain and the new curtain. She then sewed the new curtain to the top of the original curtain so that the new curtain would install properly. She also cut the new curtain to better fit the Escape. It turned-out great and works much better. The sewing was not difficult at all.

The stock shower curtain in our 19 was very flimsy and prone to tearing. So, Kathy, who is a very good seamstress, shopped around and found a regular bathroom curtain but this one is a bit unique. It has a print of an outhouse on it. She re-built it to fit the 19's bathroom leaving the outhouse in plain view when closed. Looks fabulous.

Hey Jim and Robin, back from Napa?? Did you happen to take pictures of the curtain modifications and would you mind posting them?

We also replaced our curtain with a nylon one, but we got one big enough to cover the door and also to drape across in front of the toilet area (that corner is held up by a stick on hook).
This works great for us as the whole bathroom isn't soaked after our showers and dries quickly.

Hi: All... We have the exterior shower on our "Escape Hatch". Doesn't require a shower curtain... but I haven't had the nerve to go out and use it yet !!! Alf

A couple more years, and you won't care at all about stuff like that anymore.

On a related item, has anyone replaced the shower curtain "rod," the I beam shaped metal rod that holds the curtain? Ours is starting to show a little rust. I have yet to find a suitable non-rusting material, such as fiberglass or aluminum, to replace the current rod.
When the weather turns around, I'll look at what is used on stick built trailers, but hoping some other Escape owner has already solved the problem.

Rick
I replaced my rod the first week I got the trailer. Camped for 7 1/2 weeks last year and used the shower every day with no problems; I used a solid aluminum rod, I believe 3/8" in diameter. I'll go out sometime today and take a pic to post.

We left the original shower rod in place and purchased the same type of shower rod from Texas RV Supply, to go against the back wall. We sprayed it white (originally silver). I installed a full size shower curtain, using extra hooks. This covers the door and the toilet area.
I sewed a piece of braid to one side of the curtain with two small plastic curtain rings on the ends of the braid. To keep the shower curtain out of the way, I gather it up by the braid and attach it to a suction hook when not in use.
Note: Texas RV Supply (http://www.txrvsupply.com/) claims to have one of the largest RV accessory inventories in the world.

Looks great! Since we live in Pearland I tried to find the rod in the Texas RV Supply catalog & couldn't find anything that looks like your picture. I was wondering if you could remember the name/part # for the rod and extra hooks? Our trailer doesn't get here until end of June & wanted to have the parts on hand before it gets here. (I know name/part# might be asking a lot, but nothing ventured, nothing gained!)
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Sharon,
I had to buy a long piece of that rod and I have enough left over if you want it.
Better still, when you go to Chilliwack, ask Dave for the materials. You need 18" of the rod, four hooks and one end-stop. If you miss getting it there, you can take this piece and then order the other stuff.

Thanks so much for the offer. We are going to Chilliwack the 1st week in May (not to pick-up the trailer, but to finish the final specs & get our orientation; they will deliver our trailer end of June, 1st of July). I am keeping this thread so I can talk to them about it when we go. Thanks again for all yall's help!

This is what I did with mine. The hooks go around the back of the toilet so that it doesn't get wet.

Did you have to trim the bottom? Good idea on the stickum hooks.

No I didn't trim the bottom because if you do then it's not long enough to cover the toilet. I used a really soft curtain and it just folds up behind the toilet when not in use and the bungee cord keeps the curtain in place.

Our curtain rod recently fell down. While putting it back up is an easy fix, we like that it is not there at all for normal use. In 4 years the shower has been used a half dozen times max, so I am thinking about some kind of removable system for the curtain. This way it is not a bother for just using the toilet.
