It's not just a coating. From the link in the first post:
Quote:
Made of 80% fine quartz sand and 20% high-grade acrylic, quartz tone granite material is 3 times harder than natural granite yet, silky to touch and easy to maintain. The material features a high resistance to thermal shock and is UV stable and heat resistant to 500 degrees f to resist fading, chips and scratches.
The "three times harder" claim is ridiculous, but the rest makes sense. This is the countertop material usually marketed as "quartz" or "engineered stone", with trade names such as Silestone, Cambria, Caesarstone, and Curava, although for a countertop these materials usually have less than 20% resin (acrylic or otherwise) content.

Fred, Great modification! Looking at your finished photo, it looks like you repositioned your grey drain to the from the middle left to the rear left of the compartment under the sink. Did you have any issues removing the bottom of the compartment to affect this change? Based on your success, I plan to install this sink in our 21 and would like to move the drain to the rear.

Thanks, Tom

Thanks Tom!

We did not have to remove the bottom of the compartment. Tom (tdf-texas) has an amazing analytical mind that figured out how to do it. Even though the new sink drops down lower than the standard sink, I think we actually gained more storage area.

Were you able to access the gray water drain from the front of the cabinet or from the side, next to the door?

Fred, would you post a picture of the lower cabinet piping that includes the 1-1/2 in. DWV Flexible PVC Coupling?

You can see where I previously added the hepvo valve, but would love to relocate the drain to the left rear of the cabinet as you have when I install the new sink.

OK, I cut the 1 1/2 in pipe right after the first 90 coming out of the grey tank leaving enough pipe to allow a 1-1/2 in. x 1-1/2 in. DWV Flexible PVC Coupling to clamp to the pipe stub.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/1-1-2-in...-150/100058870

I then drilled a 2 1/8 in hole in the upper cabinet where I wanted the drain pipe to go through. I glued a 1 1/2 in abs 90 onto a section of 1 1/2 in abs pipe long enough to reach from the end of the pipe I cut to the hole I just cut. A little long is OK - just make sure it's not too short.

I then stuck the pipe with the 90 through the cutout in the lower cabinet and temporarily stuck a short section of 1 1/2" abs pipe into the 90 through the hole. This allowed me to see where I needed to cut the pipe such that it fit between the hole and the cut end of the drain pipe going to the grey.

I installed the PVC coupling joining the now correct length section of 1 1/2 in abs pipe with 90 and the cut pipe going to the grey making sure to align the 90 on the end of the pipe up towards the hole. I inserted a section of 1" x 2" board through the cutout in the lower cabinet and used it to lever the 90 up as I glued a short section of 1 1/2" abs pipe into the 90 (Fred held the board as I glued). The abs stub was cut such that it extended up through the hole just enough to allow gluing the trap adapter onto it.

I then glued a 1-1/2 in. ABS DWV Hub x SJ Trap Adapter onto the stub.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/NIBCO-1-...D112/100344620

I completed the drain by installing a 1-1/2 in. Slip Joint Waste Arm to connect to the Hepvo.

That's how Fred's Hepvo was installed. His grey piping is different than mine even though the two trailers were built only a few weeks apart. I would expect from what I have seen, that rarely does Escape do the piping twice the same way making each install unique.

ps. I cut a plywood plug using a holesaw without the pilot drill to make the plug that filled in the old hole. You want to fill that hole as anything that drops into it is tough to get back out.

Thanks greatly for the detailed installation. I have the spay foam insulation, so I don't know if I have access to the 1 1/2" pipe exiting the gray tank. I'll take a look tomorrow. Another option, I might be able to access the drain pipe through the side of the kitchen cabinet. Worst case, I will leave the drain as is when I install the sink. Thanks again!

I'm sorry, the pipe I'm referring to is the one that is in the bottom cabinet beneath the sink. It's the black pipe in the pic below. On Fred's trailer, it has a 90 fitting and turned just underneath the cabinet shelf - in the pic, mine just goes straight up. I could of added a 90 fitting to the black pipe and then did it the way I did Fred's but the wife's happy so leave it alone.

Thanks, the photo really helps. I do not have access to the pipe through the lower cabinet as it has a partition. I'll check to see if it is possible to remove the partition.

We didn't remove the partition. The pipe comes up, makes a 90 turn and we cut the pipe about an inch and half from the 90. The cut was made well before the pipe reached the partition.

I wish Fred would post a pic of his - something about a thousand words!

Fred. Thanks for the photo’s. The last one gives me a good perspective of how the drain is routed.

"Can we talk"

Hi: Red Dog... Might want to do a copycat on your sink. On our NFLD trip I hit a pothole... made the sink board/cover jump up and came down in the sink bowl sideways and cracked it!!! Good a time as any to go "Granite"!!! I'm not really "Hep" on the idea of doing it... but I've never met a plumber yet who's on the level. Alf

Hi Alf!

We love the sink. It’s amazing how a couple of inches make all the difference in the world!

Best of luck!
