Slightly smaller mattress for E19?

All - is anyone with 2nd gen (2017, 2018 or 2019) Escape 19 finding their mattress is too tight against the walls (when the bed is made up) to lift it to lift the lid to the storage area easily? I am ordering a new Escape and am considering getting a mattress that is 1 inch smaller in both width and length so that I can lift the bed easier. Is this a good idea?

My problem with the mattress is not the length or width but the thickness, it is a real workout to take it out if you need to do any work in the area. There are many thinner designs this days that still give good support.
