Maybe I missed it but you mentioned you had to do a little modification to get the table to go high and low enough in the 5.0TA... Can you say more about the modification and what was involved.

Is your table smaller than normal? In order to make the bed you would need another board?

Can one not leave the table full sized? I would have thought the movement that this pedestal allows would accommodate that. I really wouldn't like a table that small, one of the reasons for leaning towards a regular dinette.

Yes, you can just use the full sized table. I'm assuming he has a filler piece for when you convert to a bed.

We chose to build a smaller table after using the trailer for 50+ nights. We don't use the table at all most of the time, and when we do we don't need a table that large. We prefer a "lounge" config the way others have done it.

So the new tabletop is just the right size for our lounge (we ordered a cushion from CushionSource, but it's not here yet). I did make a filler board for when (if) we want to use the dinette for a bed.

I fully understand why others prefer a full-size table, and, yes, that would work fine with this setup.

One thing I haven't done yet is install a mechanism to lock the table's side-to-side motion. It's on my list ....

We just push and lock the table down to sit on the table rails -- it acts as our "lounge" filler board. We ordered a cushion (from CushionSource) the same size as our new table, and our lounge will be complete if it ever gets here. You can see pix on this blog post.

We added a second smaller filler board (not yet trimmed out with Formica, but maybe soon) if we want to use the dinette area as a bed.

No, the base is permanently mounted Greg. But in Doug's case, since the table is smaller, there is a small unobstructed area for entering the lounge.

Yes! Although the original table has corners cut off of the forward end of the table (the end toward the kitchen). This is to facilitate ingress / egress to the dinette seats. I didn't have to cut those corners off of the filler board, since it won't be in play when any ingress / egress occurs. Otherwise, same general dimensions.

Although more than once (so far), when one of us is already seated and the other wants to join, we've had to think twice about which way to swivel the table. Some kind of spatial comprehension disability on our part. But we'll work it out.

Yep, the ability to rotate the table is our favorite feature besides the extra foot room.

We will second that Robert. Love the pedestal with the u dinette. We figured out that not clamping the clamps when using the table allows you to move it around enough to get in or out. We've been lowering it to travel. Easy Peasy!

Sorry. I missed this question. The table base is narrower than the Helm pedestal so I added a couple of 2x4 rails to raise the table and clear the locks. At some point they will get some paint.
