The stock slide mounted so it slides front to back on the Springfield goes pretty far to the rear, not so far to the front as fully front is the position for the unit to become a bed, and pretty much centered on the pedestal. If you rotate the "back" of the table to one side, then slide it all the way "back", you have a decent amount of room to the other side. Using it this way you have room to sit and work, to some extent, when checking the batteries. I actually prefer this position when I'm camping by myself.

The Dicor 4 way would negate the need to rotate the table, at a $ cost of course.
Thanks Bob, now I'm tracking. Scott

Springfield pedestal question

I guess if anyone who has bought or put one in recently can maybe answer this....do you know HOW the original top plate is attached to the pedestal portion? 3-4 machine screws down into the pedestal? I have a chance to pick up the pedestal portion, but there is no flat plate on it.....

I have the Springfield pedestal, as well as the Dicor slide, sitting here.

I am not sure what you are asking. The pedestal has a flat top plate on it, and it bolts to the angles on the slides, as shown in the photo I posted. You could literally bolt this plate to any top or slide. It did have to get trimmed down to fit the Dicor slide, but being aluminum, that is not too tough.

The top plate that comes with the pedestal attached to the column with 3 (I think, could be 4) flat head screws.... Mine's installed so I can't see, but maybe Jim B can check the number.

Yes, there are 3 screws. Not sure the size though, but they are nearly 1/4 ", but not quite.

SpringField Marine Pedestal - and a few more mods

Beat me to it Ross. The pedestal will lose its pressure and the pneumatic function will be lost if you try to take off the top. It's in the instructions if I remember correctly.

You mean don't do this? Sorry, I just had to after than double challenge.

It is only a mechanical connection, nothing to do with the lift. In fact, you could change it out with something else if you wish.

Ah, so the manufacturer warning is BS. Well, wouldn't be the first time.

Glad it didn't go flat on you Jim I called them and was told not to do it. Now we see proof-positive the contrarian in you

I looked at the brief instructions, and there was no mention of that at all, and assumed there would be a BIG BOLD warning if there was a chance of failure.

So, likely M6 (6 mm) if metric, or #12 if not.

I would bet on #12, seeing it is an American product, but you never know. I used to have one of those thread sizing tools, but it went missing a while ago. It was a handy thing.

Sure 'nuff, mine too. It is moulded right into the underside of the base.

So are you installing it after having an existing factory floor flange in your 5.0? My 2014 was ordered without one and has a tripod leg table setup that I want to replace with this pedestal. Was wondering how long/large the factory mounting screws were in that u dinette flat floor when I install the Springfield. Didn't want to drill into anything below the floor!

They use 5/8" plywood for the floor. Another 1/8" penetration would not hurt as there is the vinyl on top, the resin under the plywood, plus if you went a smidge into the shell, no harm would be done. Just add to this 3/4" screw length the thickness of the base, which I have not measure, but would bet is a good 1/4" for flat heat screws.

Got my Springfield pedestal today..

And this thing is slick!!! Looks like the screws they sent with it will be fine for floor mounting in the TA as well.....now to find that Dicor 4-way top...I think I want pivotability!
Gotta go thru Dicor to find just the table top system?

FYI Tford, if you leave the top pedestal clamp loose the table top will rotate. The one change I made that really helped was rotating the table slides 90 degrees so the top slides front to back instead of side to side. Much easier for us to get into the dinette seats. (Thank you C & G in Florida for the idea).
