We have the front storage box and we love it.
But we have to admit that if it was not there we would instal a bike rack instead.
I hate having the bike in the back were I can not see them and we know that they do get shaken a lot.
Our first trailer used to be a Tab and we used to have a bike rack that was very very light that you put in the front.
Miss the bike rack but not the Tab....
Picture of the rack and also picture of bike wine carrier

Belated thanks, Jim. That is nice to know. I will have a monumental task of getting to the compartment as I have a ton of bedding, and a 3" (3 in = 7.62 cm) memory foam topper as well as the tabletop to remove. I made the bed a lounge area as well, for my granddaughters with those giant long bed pillows (so they would not lean against the windows) and a washable cover which adds to the "stuff".

I really like having my Sky Box. Skis, Poles, Boots in the winter.. hoses, cords, folding chairs in the summer.. both in the spring, the fact that it helps a bit with the aerodynamics of that nice big box right behind the TV is just a bonus

Robert, that is actually a great consideration, especially that it works with, or without, the trailer. The only time it would not work, is if you wanted to carry a boat, or something, on top too.

I agree that a roof-top box on the tug can be a valuable alternative to a trailer tongue box, especially for light but bulky items, or those you want with you on your side trips which the trailer stays in camp. We have used one on our van with our trailer - it is no higher than the trailer roof, and adds no noticeable wind noise or fuel consumption. The same goes for our canoe, but as Jim noted it is either the box or the canoe. On the other hand, one or even two bikes can be combined with a rooftop box if you choose one which is not too wide; perhaps a single kayak (on edge) could be combined with a rooftop box, too.

Looks like a P.I.A. to turn your propane on and off. And another 40+ lbs. of tongue weight.

Plus it may interfere with the front window awning.

Excellent point about the propane... there's even an FAQ on that, which says
Quote:
The platform adjusts up to 12" fore and aft, and can easily be lifted off the supports if more clearance is needed.
"Easily" is, of course, a relative term. Propane tank access probably wouldn't be so bad if not using a tank cover.

As for the weight: alas, it is not even that "light"...
Trailer Tray A-Frame Cargo Carrier
It weighs 69 pounds, almost entirely carried as hitch weight.

The location is clever, and one FiberglassRV member uses this location for a bike rack (which of course has serious clearance issues to check). I declined to buy a used trailer which I saw, in part because of the spare mounted in this location (more crudely) to free up the bumper area for a cargo box.

So the carrier weighs 69 lbs. plus the weight of the generator?

I carry my generator inside the trailer or the tow vehicle. In the trailer I move it forward or aft depending on where I need the weight. I've had no issue with gasoline fumes since the vent on the Honda can be closed.

I like the concept, but would be a bit concerned about the weight of the unit, plus the load it carries.

I think the idea is dumber than a box of hammers.

Apparently, yes. They're only selling the rack, so the generator is just a prop for the photo, and the spec is for just the rack. The rear/main support tubes are 1/8" wall steel tube... I don't think it's a featherweight design, and to be fair it is intended to handle a significant load on top.

A lighter rack for a light box for odds and ends might be reasonable.
