Talking Trash

We finally settled on the garbage container from Canadian Tire, but not where to put it.

I had it hanging with an over the door hanger on the cupboard door below the sink, but it got in the way, sticking out into the aisle. Besides, we have a dog. So it ended up on the floor in the bathroom. That wasn't particularly convenient, and it still got in the way.

So, given that there are only two Escape trailers left at the rally and that we have some rain, with a heavy rain warning, I put my mind to the problem.

This is the solution. The trash occupies a space that is only used to enter and exit the trailer. It is handy to the sink and with the door open, serves as a trash container for outside.

I used two 3lb. 3M Command hooks to hold it on the door. The trash container has a couple slits on the back to hang it on screws. I had to enlarge those to accommodate the hooks.

Now, we just have to see how well it works, but at least I didn't drill holes in the door, in case she changes my mind.

Re: Talking Trash

That would work as long as the screen door is not in use and the door gets closed by a gremlin.

Re: Talking Trash

We have the old style screen door and it's not often used, but I can see that would be an issue.
Just have to pick it up by the handle and move it back to the bathroom.

I guess.

I can change.

If I have to.

Re: Talking Trash

Actually, I think it is a great idea that I might use in non-screen door weather.

Re: Talking Trash

I thought that was the best idea until Sandra mentioned the screen. We looked again today and have yet to see a pail with a lid much less a nice pail like that.

Re: Talking Trash

I thought there was a recent thread about trash on the forum, but I couldn't find it without looking very hard. The container was available at Canadian Tire and the brand is mentioned in the thread. It cost about $5.99. 3M hooks are available everywhere.

If I wasn't so busy camping in the rain, I'd look it up.

In any event, I think the main thing is that there is this space that is available, unless you are in black fly country and need the screen. You can probably customize the idea, depending on your container.

Re: Talking Trash

Here are a couple links. No matter where you are, you should be able to find these, once you know what you are looking for.

I don't know anything about the second one, but it is Rubbermaid so you should be able to find it.

Re: Talking Trash

Great idea Glen

I think I'll adopt it too...We have the same style screen door as yours--and if the screen is in use the door is propped open...
Might be betetr than the flip top one that is frequently in the way...

I like those 3m hooks--used a few of them this past trip...

Re: Talking Trash

the screen will only be in use while the door is open, you just have to remember to retract it before closing, which you have to do anyway in order to close the door from the inside. now if you are on the outside and closing the door, that is another issue. still it is a workable solution.

Re: Talking Trash

We have the same one although have it mounted inside the cupboard door under the sink. It's actually a kitchen compost pail and I got it free from our municipal hall. Might want to check with your municipality first but otherwise several stores sell them including Home Depot and Canadian Tire. You can also buy the compost bags to fit inside.

Re: Talking Trash

Ta da!
I was compelled to put a map on it. Pail --- map. You get the connection.

Thinking of attaching it under the table top to get it out of the way of our feet. Or maybe attaching it to the table leg somehow, up off of the floor a little.
