"Texas"fan option for refrigerator

My 19 ft is in its 3rd week of production. I just contacted Kim to add this option ( $225 )... ouch, but I was not aware of this option before. Really thought l had the build sheet down.
I agree with Donna... do not know where I will travel and what the temperature may be.

I too will have the added fan(s), but was also thinking of a way to shade the fridge area. (I have wayyyyy too much time on my hands!)

I was thinking of using a piece of shade cloth. Hemming all sides but leaving space for a rod (PVC) on the top, and openings on the sides for those fiberglass tent rods. The top rod would somehow attach to suction cups and the fibgerglass rods would bend outward away fron the shell. This would give decent shade but still allow for air flow.

On the 17B, you just open the awning to shade the fridge side.

One needs to be careful with add on awnings or non factory additions near vents, particularly if they are exhaust vents. The awning may hinder the effectiveness of the exhaust and cause overheating. In addition the exhaust may also be hot, in both scenarios a fire could result.

I think this is a good point. I note that some models now use roof exhaust vents (maybe only the 21'), which should combine well with an awning, since the roof vent would be above the awning.

I can't imagine how the factory awning would block the fridge vent on my 17 or get hot enough to be an issue.

Except the refrigerator is on the other side of the trailer on the 19', 21' and the new 5er.

It wouldn't. Jim was commenting on Vicki's idea of building an awning for the refrigerator vent.

Why is Stargeezer #5 post quoting $125 for option and Robertg quoting $225 in post #21? Are there two different options available on the fridge?

I have the option for $125. Robertg probably paid more because his trailer was almost done - 3rd week of production (assuming it wasn't a typo.)

Oh dear I missed the price difference. When Larry answered my question in post #5, I put $125 for Texas Fan on my build sheet....

The $225 was because the trailer is in production and I assume the fridge has to be removed and replaced. Wish I had known about this option earlier. Kim said that
this option will be made more obvious to future owners.

This is the note that Kim sent me:
The Texas Fridge includes an additional fan built into the larger 6.7 fridge to increase air movement for those customers who reside in above average temperatures. Please note the 4.3cuft fridge has fans built into it.

Now that I have this information, I can pass it on to our customers.

I was referring to Vicki's idea of an awning added specifically to shade the refrigerator area. One might even clip the top of the awning to the roof vent...

Here I thought I was finished and ready to go, now I guess I have to make a trip to the used/new electronics store for one or two computer type of fans and see if I can fit them into my refrig. vent area. I already saw a fused wire back there and I think I can find a way to switch it. We are now thinking about escaping the heat more often next year, the 21 looks a lot more comfortable for longer time periods. Maybe go see what blue flowers look like and maybe another trip to BC without bringing a new trailer home.

I see now Brian, we're talking two different things. I wasn't thinking of an awning on the roof refrigerator vent, but the one on the side of the trailer. On the Casitas, that's where the fans go to push cool air over the coils and out through the roof vent which is built like a flue. On my Scamp, I built an awning shield over the side vent to cool that portion of the refrigerator. And it worked well.

Vicki, what were you thinking regarding a refrigerator awning?

I was thinking shade for the fridge side of the trailer. Something to help keep the sun and heat off of that area.

It appears that the "Texas Fan" option is (an exterior) to the refrigerator fan, maybe? I'm still a little confused on that point. I have also seen many recommendations for installing an inside the refrigerator fan to circulate the air inside to optimize the fridge. Could some of you folks elaborate on inside fan options and did I see somewhere that Escape offered one of these inside the fridge fans as an accessory?
