That Switch Under The Table?

There is a switch under the table (mounted close to the battery) that disconnects your battery in case of long storage times (keeps the battery from discharging, and going dry, and ruining itself). Of course, reading all the entries on this forum, you sure get the idea that NO ONE is leaving their Escapes in the driveway for too long!!!!! Isn't it GREAT! As someone recently said, "this having to work is cutting into my Escape-ing time" Or, something to that effect, anyway. I'm feeling that acutely!
Well, when we 1st saw Hokie, we pulled up to rainy Chilliwack, and started transferring our suitcases from the truck to Hokie (so my wife could arrange her nest!). My wife, in her exuberance, pushed one of the bags under the table, and guess what?? She broke off the toggle switch. We hadn't taken Hokie off the lot, but here is repair #1!
So, how to keep grandkid feet, or other other objects from doing that again? Simple solution below. Since the plywood wall that the switch is mounted to is thin, you will need to place a small piece of 3/4" wood to back it up. Pic #1 shows the likely problem, Pic #2 shows the simple solution.

Re: That Switch Under The Table?

Hi: Dan... our kill switch for the battery is located on the inside of the other side stowage bin and while pushing in the power cord my wife got it stuck and gave it a reef : so when I went to put up the landing gear NO GO !!! Before pulling out the old crank I remembered the switch and sure enough the power cord had flipped it to off. I am going to get some of the metal banding like they use to support the black water drain pipe and make a loop to cover over the switch.
Some time there aren't any kids around to shoulder the blame!!! Alf

Re: That Switch Under The Table?

Heh Alf. That seems like a poor spot for the switch, but knowing where it's at, and your metal loop, should definitely protect it against marauding power cords! Makes you feel pretty good when something doesn't work, and it comes to mind, "oh yeah, that power switch. Maybe that's the problem!!!!"
We were our with 2 of the grands this last weekend (6 and 8 yrs), and no major snafu's except the screen door got "slammed" a cople of times, and came off the track : - ) Need to adjust the "slam power" down! Really pleased with the battery. We were out from Friday night to Sunday, and the monitor barely moved from fully charged! Course, it is summer, and going to bed when the sun goes down definitely helps. Get some pics up of your rally.
