Toilet Valve Handle Holder

OK, I've done some fairly complex mods but this wasn't one of them.

I'm heading off to much warmer climes but unfortunately the trailer isn't. So time to do a quick drain and blow out the water lines as the weather could go below freezing before I return. Normally I have my wife hold the toilet valve open but she was busy packing. I know one of the regulars uses something else to hold the valve open but I cut a 5" length of hose. It holds the valve open and the rubber ends don't skid off the handle or wall.

Worked well and simple, I guess I'll throw it in the tool bag for future use.

This depends on the handle and proximity to the wall.

I have the foot valve - but this comes in handy when I want to hold the flush valve open:

My understanding is that you do not want to place anything in the toilet to keep the valve open because you can damage the rubber.

Yah, just realized that it also makes it easier when using a cleaning wand "down the hole". Especially with the hand operated valve it keeps the face further away from splashing water.

I've taken to placing Saran wrap across the toilet ( takes a couple pieces ), and then I insert the want through the Saran. You can also use the top half of a bleach bottle, but it's harder to see what you are doing.

I've used a home made version of this for the last 12 years, works fine.

According to Amazon, I purchased one of those Johnny Chocks in Aug 2012!! I know I have never used it, now I guess I need to find it as I opted for the foot flush this time.

We did get the foot flush this time, but the jury is still out on whether it is better. I never minded the hand flush, but went for it because of others choosing it saying it is better (but this is always the case, even with most of my choices). It is a bit more awkward to use, doing the flamingo stance while operating it. As well seeing it is just a soft plastic, it is now after two years showing a bit darker due to the scuffing from the bottom of footwear. Either type flush does the job just fine though.

I agree, the foot flush did not turn out as much if any improvement over the hand flush. It is more of a hassle when cleaning, even with the flush plug.

OK, glad to hear the old hand flush valve isn't so bad by comparison. Right about all the rave reviews for the foot flush.

Throughout this thread I have been pleased with how often the word ‘flush’ has been used; for no matter whether we use a hand flush or foot flush, we are not forgetting to flush. For this I give thanks

now I'm rethinking the foot flush option....we had the hand flush in the prior 3 Escapes without issue, just thought the foot would be an improvement, maybe not?

Install a food flush? I would never install a food flush. Can’t see that improves on anything. Keep it simple, use your hand and simply reach out. When you need to flush down food you are better served if you do it with a glass of suds, or ok, maybe some Pignot Grigio from Barefoot Cellars, but I’ll go no farther than that. When you’re done with the glass, be it stein or stemmed, simply wipe it clean.

Foot flush is number 1 option on Wife’s list of options we got. For the chump change it cost it was worth it from simply her perspective.

I've heard that before. But then where is the handle for you to flush your toilet at home?

Yeah, I don't get that either. I close the lid and my face is an arms length from the seat. I had never even considered it a thing until I heard others talk about it.

Not sure if this could happen with both a foot flush and hand flush but at a recent Auburn game a friend of mine let some people he semi knew use the bathroom in his 5th wheel (not an Escape), couple of hours later he noticed one of them had got the foot flush stuck and you know what happened from that.
We had a foot flush in our Casita and the Escape we purchased has a hand flush, if both are the same as far as fail rate I like the foot flush.

Safe and fun travels to all.

This was my reason for going to foot flush with the Escape. On my sticky the toilet seems to have been lower, meaning I had to bend over more to flush getting my head closer to the toilet, being 6'2" may have been part of the issue. Haven't tried the lever flush on an Escape so it may or may not be an issue on them, at least for me.

Really it's only a toilet flush, they both do the job, I'd not fret one way or the other.
