But now that both Netflix and Amazon Prime are going to allow downloading content, I think most of our recorded viewing is going to be via USB stick. My next two projects are checking out Amazon Prime to see if it's worth subscribing to and learning how to transfer content to a stick.

I have a small DVD player that plugs into the UDB ports of my laptop, and works great. The only drawback is no remote.
Last trip we just borrowed some DVD's from our daughter, and I bet with other friends and family could arm ourselves for many trips to come.
But I think your thoughts about just downloading from those sites is going to be the future, and DVDs will fade out of use too. It is so nice to have a whole library on one small device.

We already subscribe to Netflix. The same comment applies to them when they first opened about the difference in the amount of content available between US and Canada. But I think that situation has improved because we find lots to watch. If we can learn to download only Netflix it'd probably do us just fine.
Don't know about Amazon Prime but there's a 30 day free trial so we'll check it out.

When we were in Oregon we had WiFi one night, and seeing it was poring rain (which was the norm that trip), we signed into Netflix, same signup as our Canadian account, and watched a couple shows. Quite nice, but you do need WiFi or it would cost an hordes using data.
