U shaped dinette disadvantage

Have a 19 ordered, and working on the final options list. Are there any disadvantages to the u shaped dinette? Any input would be appreciated.

Works out fine for us but we have never had or seen anything else. In our 5.0 Classic, you can sit with your back to the fridge or sink, stretch out at an angle and put your feet up on it (if you are not too tall) and you can lay things on it so they are out of the way. A bunch of electrical stuff is in the under bench area...might lose some other under bench space if it had to go someplace else. Not sure how it is configured in the 19.
I think the table is smaller with the u-dinette.

Hi: donehrlich... We've had two now. First one was in our 5.0 and even though it's optional now we got it again in the 5.0TA!!! It just seems more finished some how. Smaller table to wrestle with if making into a bed also. Alf

A smaller table in the U-shaped setup, if you in fact need a larger table. It would be a change for us, because we use our table so much. This could be because in our 19 it is at the front, and it is so handy to stage things at.

I like the look of the U-shape, but what I see as more functionality to the regular one still kinda wins for me, though it will be a few years before I would have to make this choice anyway.

If you can, find a "19" owner that has the U-shaped dinette to view and scoosh around on. The original dinette with the full size table works for us.

I have a 19 with the U shaped dinette in the back instead of the front. We love the dinette for the views out the back and the large table to pile our stuff. BUT, it is a PITA to take down and put up in order to make the bed which I do frequently for my Mom. If I had it to do over, I would not get the U shape dinette ....

We like our U - but would get a variant on the standard dinette next time. Our table slides back to front and is on a boat pedestal.

Right now we slide the table to get in/out and slide it back to use the table. You can't slide yourself in enough on the bench to eat right without sliding the table back because of the U piece.

We LOVE to sit sideways on the benches with our backs against the front.

We would order the standard seat configuration (but raised 4") and the table would be a cross between the U and standard tables. It would be (guessing here - the trailer is in storage) about 12" longer than the standard U table, so there would be room to get in and out on the driver's side without needing to move the table. It would slide as it does now and use the same pedestal. (And we would get a slat to use if we had to make a bed out of it.)

This would give us a larger table, we could get in/out without moving the table, we could sit at the table all the way to the front of the trailer, and we could still sit sideways on the benches.

I like the way the U-shaped dinette looks and thought about it a lot but in the end went with the standard for our 19. We don't plan to use it for a bed except on possible rare occasions so I don't know about that aspect, but we really really like it. With a queen size pillow on each side it's comfortable to sit -- at times I lean against the wall between the bathroom and the dinette -- the sliding table is GREAT for us -- Terry especially needs more room to get into the table and we use it a lot -- for eating occasionally, but mainly for computing, writing, etc. For lounging there's nothing like the bed.

The very large table and the side-to-side slide is a must-have for me--it is so nice not to have to skooch into the seat. The U-shape does not appeal to me at all, but as in most of the options offered, it depends on how one intends to use the space.

I have done this too a few times. Great for reading at night when Mommas sleeping, or when the weather outside is frightful.

I do this, too, with the regular dinette. It's how I read or watch television on dark winter nights--don't need the U-shape to do that.

Edited: Oops, I should have said that I do this at the rear (four-person) dinette as the front dinette is my permanent bed.

I don't think there's a one-size-fits all. I've started with the U-shape dinette and two stooge tables. BUT, I did get the completed table (w/ slide) and pillar posts and cups. If I find (in the future) I want the table, all I need to do is install it. I obviously will never have the non-U-shape dinette and bigger table, but I thought this was a good compromise. And I had to TRY it as I wanted a lounge area more than I wanted a table of any size. YMMV

I didn't want the U. Very happy without it because the big table you can slide over is more important for us than a never needed extra bench seat. We also like the leg room.
