I like Chris's use of the upper step, in my stock setup it's not accessible without doing such. I believe in the new/newer units it is now part of the front storage area. Thanks for the link Jim.

Simple question, but I just don't know: are the stair treads hinged or do they just pull off?

We store dog stuff in the lower step.
In the second, higher step, we store our portable solar panel, some shoes, broom, and some metal hot dog sticks.
I think that this area backs onto the propane tank storage box.

Hi: Zardoz... I measured the distance apart for the legs and cut two 1" wide spaces for them to slide into. 4 hacksaw kerfs and I just bent the tabs down to form the spaces and stuck the 1" wide pieces of rubber seal back on top of the bent down tabs. Took me 20 min at the rally in Osoyoos.
Reace said to look at the propane compartment... but I didn't want to cut out that much. Alf

I observed Alf performing surgery on his new 5.0 that year but it works, there is an inner lip that was in the way, by notching it, bending the 2 little tabs back and keeping the rubber intact, everything is fine.

With some help from Chris I just finished rebuilding the top step on my 2012. More work then I envisioned but I'm happy with how it came out. Carpet from HD matches fairly well, will redo the other 2 steps when we get back in the spring. Now for shrinking down the table.

This is Chris R's photo of his step before rebuilding, looking from underneath. You can see without the tread lifting, it is just wasted space.

It opens up enough new space to store Deb's keyboard. Said she wouldn't go away for the winter unless she could bring it along. And here I was thinking fishing rods.

This is definitely on my to-do list. Bob where did you get the piece of oak to finish off the top step to the left and right of the step? Any particular code numbers I should know?

Code numbers ? it's just some scrap 3/4" oak cut to size. I did have to cut the drivers side in half so it'd clear the preexisting trim. Chris used 3/4 oak plywood I believe and veneered the exposed edges. Just depends what you have sitting around.
Need to have a decent set of tools, there was quite a bit of trimming needed as the back wall of the steps, where the hinge goes, is anything but straight.

I've got all kinds of tools, so that's not a problem. Guess I'll need to go to HD for some wood... that I don't have.
Thanks Bob!

Ack! Not HD! If you just need some bits and bobs, try the Rebuilding Center on Mississippi (3600 block in NE pdx). Sometimes they have perfect stuff at the fraction of the cost of new.

I hate to say it, but the BORG does carry some good stuff, though I rarely buy wood there.

The Borg. Love it.
Around here I've found HD pretty useless. You wander around for several minutes, can't find the item, ask a clerk, they look for several minutes, then come to find out they don't have it. Then you go to Ace Hardware or even Lowes, they have it, it's where you expected it to be, and you're set. Learned my lesson years ago about HD.

Hi: rbryan4... I'm another lesson learner. Home Despot only carries stock of what they can buy cheap. Anything of value you need a proper hardware store for. Alf

The BORG (Big Orange Retail Giant for those still wondering) has limitations, but does have some good product, no different than Lowes or Rona. I only shop if I know exactly what I am looking for, as not to toot my own whistle, but I know a heck of a lot more than your average customer associate. In fact, I have taken customers aside after cringing hearing what the associate gave them for advice. Quality wise, they have lots of good stuff. For electrical tools they carry Klein, although still pricey is one of the best brands for handtools going. Many of their tools are of good quality, but do beware as they have some cheaper ones in their too.
I still do most of my shopping through wholesalers, but there are times when Home Depot has what I need (as long as the have stock that is.
