I guess I'm in trouble. Bought a bundle of firewood at the forestry campsite near Merritt. Didn't use it. Dragged it home to North Van. Daughter took it with her to Penticton. Brought it home.
It's well traveled, but at least it hasn't been out of Province.

I suspect the original owner of this trailer was using the special rack to carry leveling wood, since I think I'm seeing 45-degree cuts on the ends of some pieces. But this looks like huge overkill on how much leveling wood is needed, if that's what it is. Please ask the original owner his intent and solve the mystery for us.

I can invision all kinds of uses for this under trailer box. However, during rainy travel, road rash would get all over what's in it. Maybe, by lining the leading edge and botttom with a tarp (grommets and zip ties to hold in place) there'd be less grit? Here's one thing that could be placed in a box like that. As you can tell, the owner has built a special sling for carrying the tote. The box would work too!
Thank you all for your suggestions.
Yes, the original owner that designs and made this clever carrying box, was using it to carry levelling wood. We like to carry plastic RV levelling blocks, as they are less heavy.
I love they idea of use it to carry the tote. Will have to see if the height is sufficient.
Have one question about wood; we never carry wood for burning because of the restriction at many places, but do you think that this restriction apply for pieces of cut hard wood?
The BBQ that we use utilized little pieces of hard wood for combustion.
Can't help wondering how much firewood would be bouncing around under there .... could it damage ?
I really doubt the bounce would be too bad, especially with a tandem axle. No different than anything else you have loaded.
That tank Donna posted go me thinking. Some kind of big tub, like on oversized rectangular wash basin, would be good for storing underneath too. Maybe a couple on a simple frame. Something along the lines of these. 25 Quart Shelf Tote by Sterilite - Opaque
Or, better yet, you could go to a plastics suppliers, and have one welded up to meet your specifications out of good tough plastic like used in holding tanks. Probably more costly, but you could get a great look and fit.

An alternative to wood that is cut, split, and dried. Most of these pressed wood bricks are acceptable fuel in the US and Canada. We use them when we are camping and as a cold weather fuel in the wood stove (lots of BTU'S). It is important to keep the compressed wood firebricks dry. I bought one of these from Amazon 4-in-1 Paper Log Maker: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
I got tired of recycling newspaper in the trash and having to buy cg firewood. Now I shred all my waste and old bank records and make paper blocks and then burn them. Sort of getting 2 lights on the same match.

Hello Michele and inquisitive people
The storage box was fabricated to put my leveling lumber (2x6) various lengths and also my floor mat. These items quite possibly would be wet and dirty anyway so it worked great for me. I had no intentions of using it for firewood because it is illegal to transport out of own area. (Burn where you buy it) If you look close at the pictures of the rack it is situated up between the frame rails of the trailer.(Very secure)
For those inquisitive people this 19' escape comes with an optional storage box on the front of the trailer made by ESCAPE IND. that will store what you need to keep clean CLEAN.
