Underbed storage....

I recently acquired some spring loaded pistons to install under the bed to help raise and lower the access under the mattress. My question is the operation of these items? Which way are they installed, are they installed near the opening end and point towards you or away from you?

Hydraulic lifts as shown in your post should always be mounted, shaft end down.
They are filled with nitrogen, and oils.
Mounted shaft end up compromises the oil seal
