Yah, Dave, I'm sure you deserve to win something. I'm just not sure what.  Hint: it'll hiding inside in plain sight and those are 1"long machine screws.

And given Canada’s (understandable) affinity for Robertson screws, I gotta wonder, why the old-school straight slot screw heads, man? Whatever it is, it will definitely not muster as a “factory accessory” with those doodads.

Apparently the original poster is either unaware or doesn't care about the little known Canadian ordinance requiring the use of Robertson screws. With screws that long, I hope it's not a new style t.p. holder to be mounted on an outside wall. 😜

I’m just surprised you can even still get antique screws like those up there. Maybe they’re from an old personal hoard? Something from back before the dawn of metric, surely.
Which leads me to an interesting thread sidestep hijack: For a long time I had wondered why no one had come up with a metric version of time. But today I discovered that Swatch did just that in 1998! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swatch_Internet_Time
Ok, maybe not exactly metric, but pretty darn close.

Well the previous owner of our house must have missed that ordinance. I'm painting our living and dining rooms and hall, went to take down a smoke alarm yesterday almost at the ceiling on an 11 foot wall, to find one of the phillips screws stripped, what a battle hanging high on the ladder. When I put it back up I intend to follow our ordinance - Robertson for sure. I lived in an apartment for a year in 05-06 in Milton, ON, home of the Robertson.

OK, you get part marks for "old personal hoard" I've built some boats over the years and I have many boxes of s/s bolts of various sizes.
They are U.S. made bolts. I "bought American" Absolutely, Robertson rules.
