1 Up Rack

I'm considering the purchase of a 1 Up Rack for my two bicycles. Does anyone have experience with the 1 Up Rack mounted on the rear of an Escape 21? I'm curious if my bicycles will clear the spare tire when mounted on the rack. The spare tire sticks out 8" from the rear of the receiver.

Thanks.

Thanks Karen. I sent a PM to Jim. He appears to be very knowledgeable about these racks.

Mine clears fine if I load it the one way and pay attention to the pedals.

The answer turned out to be simple. 1UP sells a hitch extender that sets the rack back behind the trailer (and spare tire) an additional 7 inches.

We got our 1Up just before this trip and are heading back from Glacier. 2300 miles so far and I've had to tighten it slightly with it's Allen wrench 3 times. Didn't need the extender and would be sure you need it as it seems like it would just add to the pendulum effect. We mount the bikes opposed to each other and lower one seat.

You definitely don't need the extender, and as Rousse said, it would only extend the weight further back. The only thing you can't do, and that is really not a big deal on the trailer, is to fold it up when not in use, like you can on a car or truck.

Ours has been used a fair bit now, having owned it for just over a year, and it continues to perform well. I showed it to a bunch of folks at the Rally, and I believe all were impressed with the build, and simplicity of use.

I purchased the 1up, but have yet to use it. We are leaving Tuesday morning on a trip, I'll have some feedback in the next few weeks.

Yeah, don't worry about the feedback. I bet I could right up your thoughts on it even before you use it.

I kid of course, it would be great to hear others take on it. Maybe I drank some 1UP Koolaid, and am biased because of it.
