12v Portable Expresso Machine

This looks like a very nice little gizmo for all my fellow coffee lovers. About $200 so it will have to wait until I win the lottery..

Re: 12v Portable Expresso Machine

Handpresso has been making a portable espresso maker for about 5 years that uses the little pods. It got fairly good ratings. They now have one that will use grounds too, for those that prefer to freshly grind the beans, making a much fresher tasting cup. The big difference with this model compared to the one Dave linked to (which I had not seen yet), is that you need to boil the water separate, but for trailering that is not much of a big deal. LINK

I have tried a cup using the older model, and it is not too bad at all.

This model can be bought at MEC for $98. LINK

The plug and play 12V model does look cool though.

Wow---I have a small stove top model that I have used for years--got it for around $4 at the $ store!!!
Steam some milk and froth it up and a great latte--while camping...

Re: 12v Portable Expresso Machine

Anna-Marie, I have a Moka pot too, and I use it all the time. That was how today's coffee was brewed.

The stove-top espresso is not quite the same as it is not extracted under the same pressures as a traditional espresso machine, but still is very yummy just the same. I often add a bit of hot water for an 'Americano', or frothed milk for a cappuccino.

Lisa picked our pot up at a thrift shop for $6, and it is a 6 cup, though espresso cups are only about 2 oz. I can make a couple large Americanos with it.

Though not that large or heavy, I still usually take our Aeropress for use in the trailer. Lisa prefers the coffee it makes.

I wonder how much power it sucks out of the battery?

I'm bringing my Nespresso next trip. I also have the Moka pot that lives in the trailer for off-grid use.

Re: 12v Portable Expresso Machine

We've used the Bialetti stove top maker for years and it, like the Moka pots, makes a great cup of coffee. I don't think it will make better coffee, but I sure do like the looks of the

As is probably apparent, I love gadgets. Fortunately, as I've aged, I've acquired a bit of restraint. If not, the whole house (and the Escape) would be filled with little, rattly gimcracks and doo-dads; not to mention too many flashlights, firearms and tools. Come to think of it, I think I have to retract my statement about restraint.

Dave, maybe you should be put into some type of restraints.

That sure is a funky pot, but the good ol' Bialetti pots probably do work as good.

Jim,
Maybe I could find some good retractable restraints...

That Bialetti is a tad out of my "bang for the buck" control system built into my brain.. Although there's seems to be an over ride system that kicks in for a 'new phone'...

I have just the opposite response Jeff. My phone is one of those "pay by the minute" phones. Up until the last one wore out, I didn't even have a camera in the phone.

We all have our interests, and that is what makes this an interesting group of folks.
