17' Memory Foam Topper

Has anyone with a 17' fitted a memory foam topper over the large dinette? If so, how did you shape it? What was the cutting instrument? I found a full sized 54" wide one that is 2.5" thick at Sam's Club. but am not sure what to use to get it to fit. Right now, the cushions are squished together, so I'm trying to figure out a fairly accurate way to make the pattern as the length of the foam is about 75" or 76" and the "Suite Escape" is approximately 78" across.
Ideas in that department will be welcome as well.

Re: 17' Memory Foam Topper

We got a 2 inch memory foam and was able to just use heavy duty scissors.. I actually was pretty surprised that it worked.. wasn't too hard to do, if I recall properly..

Jeff to the rescue again!
Thanks, I'd of never thought of using scissors. I think having a topper will allow the bedding to be tucked in a lot easier too.

Re: 17' Memory Foam Topper

Hi: All... We have a memory foam topper for the dinette/bed in "our Escape Hatch". It just "escapes" me how we cut it... or where it is Alf

Re: 17' Memory Foam Topper

Heh Sandra,
Take some cardboard or poster paper and lay it out short of the wall. "Eyeball" it as you free hand with a pencil, trying to match the curve. Cut with scissors. Then push the "eyeballed" curve into the wall, and make small reshaping cuts with your scissors until it fits well. You'll do that with 2 or 3 pieces across the back. Tape those together to make your pattern.
The foam cuts very nicely with an electric knife, following your pattern

Re: 17' Memory Foam Topper

Get out your electric knife. Foam cuts like butter with this kitchen tool. Just be careful... if you sneeze, you'll cut your foam badly.

I'd lay the foam out on the floor, place the cushions on top of it in the same pattern used in the trailer (put together tightly), trace around the cushions with a marker, then cut with the electric knife.

Re: 17' Memory Foam Topper

Thanks to all of you. I gave away my electric knife years ago..I had a funny feeling that it might come in handy, but after decades of non-use..out it went. I guess it will help the economy if I went out and got another...At least cordless ones are made now so no more dragging a cord through the meat juice (after the mattress carving).

Re: 17' Memory Foam Topper

I think most of us probably got rid of our original electric knives... I bought my recent one at a garage sale for $1. It's now out in the garage with the rest of the "tools."
