3M VHB Tape

I learned of VHB tape on this forum and thought I'd give it a try on a couple of projects with less than successful results. First, it seems to have very little ability to stick to the interior veneer and secondly, it is unable to support a modest amount of weight (downward force) when adhering plastic to plastic surfaces. We're my expectations unrealistic? (All surfaces were cleaned prior to adhesion as well.). Is there. "Super" version of this product? It'd be a handy thing to have around.

There are many versions of 3Ms VHB tape. I've found the versions found in the local big box stores such as Loews to be of limited holding power, however if you go on line they list the specifications of the different types.

I have a glass mirror hanging on the door of my bathroom that I believe I used type 4945 and it has stayed in place over 35,000 miles of towing. My solar panel is attached to the roof using 3M VHB tape, although Escape has since gone to bolting the panels rather than using tape. It is still there after 45,000 miles of travel.

Like Jon, our solar panel is attached with VHB tape and is doing very nicely, thank you, after three years of Montana weather. We use VHB tape to hold our 2 coat racks to the Escape bathroom door and side. The coat racks hold a considerable amount of items, all the time, including coats, sweatshirts, carrying bags, camera bags, etc. We've seen no sag or loosening. Yup, get the good stuff, not the hardware store variety.

I used this tape for mounting a solar panel to the roof of my Bigfoot, been on a year still tight.

So Escape doesn't use the two part epoxy to install the solar panels? Why did they stop using the epoxy mounting method?

I believe they used VHB tape earlier and then switched to the current epoxy attachment method.

A piece of square tubular aluminum is epoxied to the shell and then the panel is bolted to that.

That's how the solar panels were added on to our Escape last summer too.

Where else inside have people used the tape?

I've used double sided tape ( don't know brand ) for bath mirror, paper towel hanger and my "instrument panel". All have been in place for at least four yrs.

Thanks for the pictures. I would think that you have to think carefully about what you're putting where, because once in place it stays there! Does it matter if the area gets wet afterward -- like in the bathroom?

The mirror is on the inside of the bathroom door, but protected by the shower curtain.
