40 amp fuses
Does anyone know what the two DC 40 amp fuses are for? Will I do any harm if I pull them out one at a time to see what no longer works?

There are there to protect the converter from reverse polarity (i.e. hooking up the battery backwards).
I could be wrong, but I believe they are paralleled to provide 80 amps maximum operating current for the output of the converter. If so, pulling one wouldn't do much other than halving the maximum current available from the converter before it opened.

Thanks for the info. I was concerned that perhaps they were tied into the solar panels and/or the charge controller somehow. With the way the wiring to the batteries has been installed, I think ETI has mad it extremely difficult to hook up the batteries reverse, so I won't bother with trying to find a source of spare 40 amp fuses.

Our 2017 21' has a 40 amp blade fuse just off the positive battery terminal. If that one blows, everything powered by the on-board battery goes down. Some have had that happen. So we carry a spare 40 amp just for that one. Most, if not all, auto parts stores carry them.

Fuse
I had one conk out when a battery failed for whatever reason. A new one is about $4. I buy buss brand fuses and have good luck with them. Spare fuses are cheap insurance. Shorted a 10 Amp out at Brown County in October. Had some spares, back in busyness. I have a little puller too because my fingers are too fat for some panels. Same ones work on the car as the Escape panel. Saves a trip to town however far that might be.

I miss the days when I smoked (over 30 years now), and if you blew a fuse in the car, you just wadded in some foil from the cigarette pack.

Trying to wrap my brain. Is good luck that they don't blow? Or, is good luck that they do? Need you to tie a bow on it.

Fuses
Hi Glenn,
It’s bad luck if you do something stupid and blow a fuse. It’s good luck I’d you have a replacement fuse. If it’s a buss fuse they will fit most holders and they are easy to see if they have blown. Buss fuses are reasonably priced at least I can afford them. If you run on to a lady camper who desperately needs a fuse and you have the assortment pack you can probably help her and maybe she’ll make a banana bread for you.
The old silver fuses had the amperage and type etched on one end. I used to read the numbers for the old guys. Now I’m an old guy and there ain’t no need for silver fuses anymore. But I have a lifetime supply if I could just find them. Need any? Hope you are not con fused.

Our 40 amp fuse blew 3 weeks after we picked our 2017 21’ TT up. Tammy walked us through the fuse replacement, and has been fine since.

Dave,
I’ve got a similar problem pulling fuses, and I can never seem to get a good grip on them with those little pullers to which you refer. My solution is to pull them with needle nose pliers. Inserting a new fuse once the old/blown one is pulled does not present a problem, at least for me.

Just be careful using anything metal as a fuse puller.
If you want something stronger and easier to grip than those little pullers that are usually attached to the inside door of an automotive fuse panel, you can pick up one of these from Graybar or any decent electrical vendor:

My 2016 Tacoma came with "Ultra Miniature Fuses" (not the real name, but they are tiny! I guess they realized that normal fingers are just not going to work with them, so they included a fuse puller mounted inside the engine fuse block cover.
Of course, that means I have to carry multiple physical sizes of the same amperage replacements...
