5.0 Bottom Step Issue

Who has a fix for the bottom step to the loft on the 5.0?
If you step too close to the edge the top will flip up and could send you into a fall in the middle of the night.
A door like the top step might have been a factory solution.

Hi: daveandsandyclink... You just have to be careful when you put your foot down!!! Adding a short piece of oak wood trim to the wall at the narrow end of the step might prevent it from flipping. You would then have to insert the step under the trimed end first.
This has not been a problem for me in 5yrs. of useage. Seems when I put my foot down...my wife always puts hers on top of mine. Alf

Re: 5.0 Bottom Step Issue

Hi Dave,

I installed two 1-inch L-brackets, one on each end of the step on the riser. The horizontal part is about 3/16 inch above the carpeted surface. That provides clearance to remove and install the step. Since the horizontal surface shows, I found some brass color brackets. Works well.

Re: 5.0 Bottom Step Issue

I'm in Alf's camp. We've not had a problem with the step. If it does become troublesome, I'd go with the "L" bracket solution used by Marv.

You could also install one of the aircraft "No-Step" warning stickers

Re: 5.0 Bottom Step Issue

I like Dave's idea. Make the step a no-step and the problem goes away.

Re: 5.0 Bottom Step Issue

Thanks to All,

I have been out of touch a couple of days.
Just came out of the old growth rain forest of the peninsula and headed for the Columbia River Gorge. (Cape Disappointment). I will probably use Marv's fix. The 5.0 is working well for us.

See you out there some place/ some time.
David
