A Couple of Concerns

We just returned from our first "no hook-up" trip with our 2011 19 although we did use a generator (cheating?) in the evenings to re-charge the batteries and listen to music. Somethings have me a bit concerned.

First, as our pump was running, I turned on the monitor panel and it indicated the batteries (2-6volt) were at the lowest level. Once the pump was off, the monitor indicated the battery level was back up at the top level. So, we have bad batteries that won't take a load or the pump draws one hell of a lot of current. I should mention that the batteries held up throughout the night when the furnace was running and we had the Maxx Fan going all night to eliminate the condensation.

Second, the pump seems to take a very long time to shut down once the water is turned off. It sort of makes a slow grinding sound for a minute or two then stops. Anyone else experience this?

Third, does anyone use a Honda EU200i generator? If so, have you ever monitored the output voltage? The readout on our surge protector reads 127 volts which is a bit high, I would think.

I would appreciate any and all comments on the above.

Re: A Couple of Concerns

I've found that if you have any electrical draw ( especially the pump or furnace ) that the monitor reads low. I think that' just the way it is. So, the reading you got when the pump was off is the one you want.

I got an Innova voltage monitor that plugs into a cigarette lighter. in addition to green, orange and red LEDs it gives you a digital reading that tells you the state of charge. Cost about $14. Can't remember where I got it. It takes away the doubt that you get using the trailer monitor.

Re: A Couple of Concerns

Your batteries are fine. While under load they will drop voltage and once the draw stops, slowly recharge themselves back to normal. This why when you test them, they need to be at "rest", no draws nor charging. This is the accurate measure. The pump is probably your biggest 12v user- maybe 3-4 a/h whereas your furnace is about 2. But your pump is not on more than 5 minutes an hour unless showering. It should shut off once the water stops. Make sure you have it primed, mine ran a lot until all the air was gone from the lines. A suggestion, the solar panel would have eliminated the need for the generator, particularly with 2x6 volts which gives you more than 200 a/h for storage. You should be able to go 2-3 days without charging with that much a/h capacity. Here is a link for the meter Glen mentions above.http://www.amazon.com/Equus-3721-Bat...d_sim_sbs_sg_2
