I wonder if a set of window sash pulls (or some other handle) could be fastened using VHB tape...

We used VHB tape and an L-shaped piece of aluminum. I'd send a picture, but it is in storage until spring. It works much better with the handle, I could never get it to latch properly before and it would always spring open on me. One time it when it sprung open the moving track pieces got a goofed up and the door would not close at all, had to disassemble much of the door and put it back together. Works much better for me now.
