A not so funny thing happened

Yesterday I drove from home (Porterville, CA) to Reno. I stopped a couple of times but someone was with the truck and trailer. There was never any glass anywhere inside or out. Then I noticed my window was completely gone! The only thing I can figure is that it came off somewhere along the drive. Any other comments or thoughts?

It looks like the frame is actually broke. Maybe someone tried to break in? If the bottom of window was broke free so the window could flap up and down while traveling that could break the top hinge.

Tough luck there. Looks like it was either left open or opened on it's own somehow and the wind ripped it off. Guess you need to call ETI and see about getting a replacement, one way or another.

What would have caused the little top hinge awning to get chewed up the way it looks? If the window blew out it would not have damaged that top awning rubber piece?

Yes, it’s the kitchen window. I have already ordered a new one from ETI.

Bad Luck, too!

It happened to me, too. It cost about $650 as I had replace my entire bedroom side double window including frame( I put it in myself). I use the pool noodle method to keep them closed and check at every stop to see if they are opening. I think a rock may have kicked up and caught the slightly protruding frameless window glass.
My fix was to use the adhesive rubber drip edge ETI uses on top of the window but mounting it vertically to deflection protect any rocks and rock wind if the window has opened slightly. I don't think its too ugly but gives some piece of mind. I bought 2 rolls from ETI about $15 a roll. Hope this helps and sorry this happened to you. I now carry some clear plastic as you know things can happen on the road.

once, while riding my bicycle across the country, I came across an entire Hehr Window laying on the shoulder of the road. From the appearance of the window, it hadn't been closed and the air pressure had on the window had caused it to separate from the trailer. At least that was my best guess and I am sticking by it.

I'll bet someone got tired of that exit window closing / opening lever knifing them in the back and just ripped it off …. I've come close. Or next …. someone will find my range hood being an orphan on the road.

@WyoTom, what is the pool noodle method for keeping the windows closed?
Thank you.

You cut off a piece of foam, I use foam pipe covers, maybe 1.5" thick. I place them on each knob so it creates some friction against the frame and keeps the knobs from turning unintentionally.

I slice the smaller diameter pool noodle instead of pipe insulation. It’s firmer and holds better. See cpacharlies picture

OMG! You found it! We lost our emergency window somewhere on I-10 between Beaumont TX and Mississippi. Pulled over to get gas and my wife says "our window is missing".

Where did you find that window?

The best we could figure out is that the latch popped loose and the window flew off. We now add a strip of velcro to the latch handle to keep that from happening again.

This is why I carry a couple big pieces of card board and a few rolls of duct tape, just in case.

Duct tape ( or correctly Duck Tape ) has no place in my kit. I have a roll of gaffer tape ( used in the film industry ) because it doesn't leave a sticky residue, doesn't stick to itself and can be removed without causing damage ( if you peel it slowly ).

There are duck tapes that claim to do the same, and maybe they are the same, IE. gaffer tape.

It’s not available in white?

No, duct tape is correct. In a slick marketing move someone branded “duck” tape to confuse everyone. Ironically though duct tape shouldn’t be used to tape ducts.
