Awesome, Pat. Pretty much what I was thinking is to remove the current backsplash strip and fit the board to slip up behind the upper cabinets and then screw back on the backsplash at the bottom. The Formica would be a great solution and use it as the backsplash or adhere the new tile backsplash to it.

If you order custom Formica for your trailer, you will get the leftover section(s) that they don't use for the counter and flip up tables/counters. We used our extra for the frig, which was suggested by someone on this forum. Popped off the lip area on the doors, removed the panel that was there originally and carefully put these in. The one for the frig section (freezer section was easier) was almost too long to curve enough to fit in the door without cracking, so you have to be really careful. Or take the door off, I guess. Here's a photo:
Your Formica insert on the fridge looks great! May have to try something similar.

I have notes in my escape binder from a post on this forum by a family doing a year in their escape. they put some sort of whiteboard material in place of the refrig door panel. I think this would be great to keep grocery list, write messages, etc. The formica idea is cool, too! Decisions.....

Also re backsplash, I am not having the stove cover installed. I want to do one of the cutting board covers that I've seen in various trailers here. But I will want to have something to deal with splatters, particularly on the vinyl. The side of the wardrobe should clean up fine by itself. Does anyone here produce that kind of cover or know where I can get one? Thanks.

I remember the white board stuff being used. You might want to wait until you've used the trailer a bit before you decide what you want to do. We didn't replace the frig facing for a while.

I ordered a custom sized cutting board and Dirk cut out and assembled a wood frame for it. Fits perfectly on top of the stove. Since I wanted the blue cutting board, I had to go with a much thicker board than I originally wanted, so that sucker is heavy! I just emailed ETI to ask about purchasing 4 cabinet handles so I can attach it to the board frame. It'll be easier to remove with the handles. So, don't have any photos at this moment to show ya.

This is the company I went with:

https://www.cuttingboardcompany.com/

While in email discussion with one of their customer service guys he sent me a photo showing the feet they can install (not high enough to clear the burners, which is why we went with the frame). It was attached to a royal blue board (much darker blue than what they normally offer) that was special ordered in large quantities by a customer. he said they could cut some up for me, but it had to be the thicker board (3 quarter inch). Oh well, it'll be quite useful when it's all done.

The wood is purple tinted. Any surprise there?

Greg good idea to install tiles on thin material . Really I undid the backlash so I could put Formica in there about 1/4 then put it behind Vent , bending it a little then tighten up the backsplash and it hasn't moved . Found the plastic edging at Lowe's . Pat

Finally got around to installing Smart Tiles on our kitchen wall. One box of 12 tiles did the job with various scraps left over. Only 2 of the 12 could be placed uncut. Turned out pretty good. Took about 3 hours to do the whole thing.

Sweet! Nice work and great taste. Looks like Milano Sasso.

Anna-Marie how’s your backsplash doing, is the adhesive on the tiles still holding alright?

Cheers

It was the last time Doug saw it--I haven't seen it since we moved in October---it resides not far from our house.....

Doug,
As another point of reference I completed mine in late 2016 and it is still like the day I installed it. Just looked closely at it this past Sunday in fact. As I've said in another thread the Smart Tiles have an almost industrial stickiness, but can still be removed cleanly if needed.

For you talented people that have done the backsplash I have a question. Did you remove the window hardware and blind or did you install with it in place?
