After Market camera and RAV4
It's my birthday, or was yesterday, so I got presents.
Got an iPhone, which should keep me busy reading the manual, until spring.
And, I got a Yada backup camera. I've not opened the box, but I've been on-line and watched an installation video. The issue I haven't found addressed is that the camera mounts on the license plate, and on the RAV4 the plate is off centre because of the spare tire. I emailed Yada and got this: "I have heard of people making brackets to put on the bottom of the bumper and even on the inside of the rear window. Other than that there is not much else to do. "
Very quick response ( 4 hrs. ) but not much help. They should market an overpriced accessory to deal with this issue.
Anybody with a solution?
I'd post over on FGRV but then somebody would suggest I buy a Kia or a Subaru Outback. Not talking to them.

Glenn,
I believe Jon V. has a a back up camera on his RAV4, or maybe he has it mounted on the back of his Escape? Maybe he has 2 of them? He may offer some insight, by the way, Happy Birthday
I too notice they love their Subie's over there...

Beat me by a day, but I'm much older. For what that's worth.

Happy Birthday Sir!
Any chance you could glue an earth magnet to the mounting bracket?

Your not going to let this mornings tiny little traffic jam scare you away from tomorrow's 20 mm snow fall are you?

I'm retired. I don't have to go anywhere or do anything, unless I want to. I have the 4x4 and snow tires, but staying off the road works for me.

I have 2 cameras, one on the 17 & the other added to the RAV4. I have the sport model, which doesn't have a rear spare tire (in fact, no spare tire, but that is another story).
I still had to mount the camera off center because of the location of framing in the door & the license plate. Still works well for hooking up once you get used to the offset. Here is a quick photo.

Mine would really be off centre if I put it on the plate. I sent another email to Yada asking if a magnet ( fastening the camera to the vehicle ) would damage the camera.
Got this: "Hi Glen,
Unfortunately I am unable to tell you if it will damage the camera. This has never been tested."
So, I guess I can try. I'm assured that Costco has a very liberal return policy.
