Aftermarket Surge Protection

I am planning to have a EMS-HW30C surge protector installed, and since I have a 17B, I imagine it will be going under the large dinette where I sleep. I understand they "hum". Has anyone who has the hardwired surge protectors notice this? If so, and is it is annoying, and can it be muted?

Hi Sandra we have that same one in our 19 it is under the dinette but have not noticed any noise at all coming from surge . We just camped 5 days with hook ups so didn't need heater so everything was quiet .

We noticed a noise in the beginning. The brochure said the noise would go away after it had been used a bit. I don't hear it anymore, but that could be because
A) the noise went away
B) I have developed a hearing loss, but haven't gotten hearing aids yet
C) we put a 3" foam topper on the bed
D) all of the above

This was the factory installed Surge protector

PS: I should mention it was a very faint hum, audible only when laying down directly over the surge protector

I have the factory installed model and have never heard anything, except a bit of a one-time "clunk" when power comes through after whatever the wait period is.

We have a 17b with the same surge protector, we sleep with our heads above it, we've not heard any sound coming from it, the only time there appears to be much sound is when you first plug in and it's checking everything, or if it shuts down for some reason

Sometimes the converter will hum, but I have not heard anything from the EMS set up.

If it bothers you and there's room, maybe you can glue styrofoam (or some other insulation) to the bottom of the cabinet lid. Does this monitor generate any heat? That drives me crazy when I sleep over something that heats up my bed (in the summer).

Do you all recommend the factory installed surge protector?

Recommend? I donno, it's part of my build sheet. One less thing to worry about. I'm getting it (it's economical feasible). YMMV
