aluminum bar is making a mess on trailer wall

The aluminum bar which permits the rear table to pivot from the high to low position seems to be smudging "dust" onto the trailer wall. Smudgy looking gray stuff that looks like heck. What should I use to clean?

Thanks CP, that is exactly it. It IS on our Escape, another brand of trailer. Some success with Magic Sponge. Wife says I should have moistened it first. Will try again.

Problem I've had with that Magic Eraser is that there is a stark difference between where you've used it and where not. So, you really have to do the whole area or you'll see where it's been used.

That, and the fact that the magic eraser "magically" disintegrates as you use it.

Well, I went for it and it did take off the aluminum residue. While there is no noticeable change in appearance of the header material or whatever one calls that stuff, it does feel less smooth leading me to believe I have possibly abraded the material in some fashion. It may show up under daylight, however that is hardly a high visibility location. We'll see.

I doubt that the bar is aluminum - it's probably steel with some sort of plating or coating.

Magic Eraser and similar products are abrasives. Yes, they're fine and soft, and they break down as they are used, but they are abrasive.

We have that table in our 17. The bar is plated steel. The marks on our vinyl are from dust (and ID and MT forest fire ash)that's gotten behind the table.
