Another Fridge topic, defrosting....

Upon arrival at home and set up I turn off the refrigerator and remove all food items. I set the door to "vacation mode to allow air to circulate and leave a towel inside for any excess water and remove i the next day. But the freezer with it's own door poses a problem to keep open and aloo air drying. I have been removing the freezer door via 2 screws and leaving it open and this works well, but I see a potential screw stripping issue down the road with plastic and metal screws.
Can anyone offer a better suggestion to keep the freezer door open until everything dries short of removal? Thanks for any help.

I tried to prop it open with a folded paper towel. It seems to have (almost?) permanently depressed the gasket where the towel was. NOT recommended.

You can release the latches and slide the freezer divider forward, but I was afraid of breaking the latches by using them too much - they seem to want to stick.

With my 5 cu. ft. I open the freezer door and partially close the fridge door. The top shelf in the fridge door holds the freezer door open and the freezer door keeps the fridge door open.

Charlie, I have always propped open my freezer door with a plastic cup in the upright position. It also hold the refer door open. Works fine!!

It's a different unit, but when I had the 17 I'd just open the refrigerator door after turning it off, and then go out the next day and dry everything off with a towel. I left the main door with a towel in it to avoid mildew, but never had to do anything special for the freezer compartment.

I use a set of bamboo wooden tongs - they fit perfectectley in the groove under the handle lip of the freezer - the end of them lean against the frame and hold the freezer door open to let air in.

JIm, you have the 6.7 Fridge in your 21, right? Can't you just remove the freezer compartment by pulling it out (that was what Rhonda did during our orientation). Then the whole thing should dry by leaving the door open a bit.

I take out the freezer 'box' and lay it on a towel on the bed.

The two little tabs on the bottom pull down to unlock and then slide each toward the center. The refrig door barely opens far enough as it hits the bed structure in the 19'. I slide the freezer out and gently up, it comes out easily with a bit of gentle persuasion.

2. Lay wifeys hair dryer on door to keep it open.
3. Turn on hair dryer and aim at fins.
4. Go drink a beer.
5. Turn off hair dryer since frost is gone.
6. Close up fridge.
7. Put hair dryer back from where you stole it.
