I put a Fiamma case awning on my Scamp, just like the Oliver. Trust me, it's NOT waterproof. If anything when water gets into the case, it stays there. Casita uses the same awning style. I've yet to see any awning that doesn't mold. Just some worse than others and a lot of that has to do with owner care and maintenance.

Jim,
25 years ago, we owned a used 1975 Airstream. We replaced the awning, as the previous owner had allowed it to mildew and tear at the corners. We maintained the new Zip-Dee replacement awning with just mild soap and air drying, and had no issues until we sold it 5 years later. The Airstream did have an integrated aluminum cover, that the awning rolled into, so the cloth was not exposed to the sun, but water still got onto the edges and wetted the cloth. Normal washing and drying is all it took in the sunny, drought-prone Bay Area.

I went out to take some close-up pictures of my awning the other day. Had decided to finally teach myself how to unfurl it and to take step-by-step pictures of the process for a reference sheet I could keep handy.

So here's my pictures. BUT, what did I notice? Note that loose screw on the awning reel.

It is a holy cow moment for us who know that luck favors the prepared mind.

Great walk thru Myron.
Couple of tips Reace gave us on the awning.
Make sure when you roll the awning back up that you don't forget to set the open/close lever to the correct position. They've had some where this was forgotten and the awning unfurls as you drive.
Practice walking the assist strap at an angle as you retract the awning so you aren't left with a piece hanging down flapping against the side of the trailer.

I had my awning unfurl coming back from Osoyoos, the black awning strap "unlocked" the awning. I then attached a small bungee to keep the lock "locked" for the rest of the trip.

I now furl the strap up a couple feet away from the open/close latch to prevent it from flapping in the wind and unlocking the awning.
