It really depends on how long your trailer is stored. A few weeks or even a month I would do nothing special but if it where 3-6 months I would put it on trickle charger as you have been doing. The charger built into the trailer could over charge your battery and boil out the electrolite or do other harm if just left plugged in indefinitly. However with a good maintence free battery this is less an issue. Also some chargers use "smart technology" to monitor the batteries needs. Not sure if the charger Escape uses is that type, but I doubt it. Suggest a call to Escape.
