I never used the shelves and removed them and went to a split grill (two pieces). With practice the Weber does pretty well for us. Never had great luck baking in it but can be done with close monitoring.

We got a Q1000 and I added the shelves to it as I find them very convenient. When closed, they take up no extra space. We store ours in the back of our Jeep Grand Cherokee. After I grill, I leave the burner on for 5 minutes then brush the grill. We have not detected any smell but I do have to be careful how I pack it to prevent (minimize to be fair) rattles. But the Q1000 smells far far less than the generator I used to keep in the Jeep.

I keep our Q1000 in the back of the truck, I picked up a Cabela's Duffel, fits perfectly with the hose and extension. Think it was the large size.

Does the bigger Weber fit in the front storage area of the 5.0? my small one fits but would like the larger one with griddle the little one doesn't have the split grill for the griddle.

Does the Weber 1000 convert to QC? Seems like I recall there was an issue with one of the Weber models. I'm pretty sure the 1200 does easily.

Thanks, Doug. Getting ready to get a new one soon, so either one would be an option then.

I switched to a Blackstone griddle and carrying case. Does breakfast better and can brown steaks and burgers ok. Cleans up with a spatula and a rag. Fits in the front compartment hatch and best of all..... no smell.

Still only has one burner and that's why my Weber portable is retired. Retired the Dickenson too ( inconsistent heat ).

My Napoleon 285 is large enough for a whole chicken and has two burners so I can cook direct or indirect.

Have not retired mine yet, but I also have a similar inconsistent heat issue with mine. (Performance did improve somewhat when I changed to a larger orifice on mine.)

Dickinson sent me a new regulator, but that didn't help. I like my toast dark brown, but I don't like my chicken "crispy critter".

I have the Q1200, we put it in the front hatch. I need to remove the cover, put the grill into the hatch and then set the cover on top (I do not reattach the pins). No problems.
We have the side wings, they are sturdy and store under the lid, they do not take up any extra room.

Yet I have had mine for 7 years and have had no heat troubles with mine. If anything, I wish it would turn up a bit more for preheating, but I have baked and grilled lots and lots of food on it and it has never failed.

I also like that it easily fits into my front storage hatch, I much prefer it on the trailer as opposed to in the truck.

I do like the Napoleon with the two burners too. I know a couple folks with them. Personally, it is a no go due to its large size. Maybe if I didn't have a fifth wheel, but that ain't changing any time soon.

Jim, my Napoleon fits easily in my front storage, made a form fitting platform so it stays in place for travel.

It is not too wide, front to back? That is great that it fits. My brother carries one, but has a 19 so no hope of it being on the trailer and it goes in the back of his SUV. Another nice thin about the Napoleon is that it can be converted fairly easily to use on the trailer low pressure system, I did that with two of them.

Hi , on our 17B the BB-Q goes under the front table on a rubber mat we use outside.
It's the first item to come out of the trailer.
