I'm 5'2" i have the Anderson 5th wheel hitch. I raise the trailer with the power jacks then i back it in. I have a small light weight step stool to stand on- i push in the latch and turn it, then I attach the break away cable, then I attach the chains (i usually use chains i have them attached to the floor of the truck so i can easily attach them to the hitch. When not in use i click them to the side of my truck bed so i can easily get them). All hitching done from the side of my truck then I plug in the power its easy for me i never climb in the bed.
I find it easier then my bumper pull (messing with the heavy equalizer etc) and much easier then my horse trailer because i have to climb into the bed of my truck to hitch my horse trailer.

I'm 6'1", was 6'2" was long ago, I have to step up on the tire to lock my handle unless I remembered to position it's chain just right. So even for taller folks you may need to reach the center of the bed. Something else to mention to folks when they visit. Wonder if it's an issue with the Anderson.

I hook it over the handle. Dennis suggested I use a 'carabiner' haven't gotten one of those yet. I'll still need to reach in.


I've seen those steps for the tire. Thought about it, but it's a one solution problem. I think I'd prefer my step stool as I can also use it when reaching other things around the trailer since I can't grow taller And no, I don't crawl into the bed, just layover/reach over the bed rail. But gotta get up there first.

those are called 'walk around queens', and typically require a 8' wide trailer to have adequate walkways on either side of a 60' wide queen mattress. they are available in a lot of 'stickies', usually as a rear queen layout in a 25'+ trailer.

A walk-around Queen-sized bed is also common in large fifth-wheel trailers, too - in the loft at the front like an Escape 5.0TA - but even with 8' (or 8'6") of body width a slide-out is usually used so there is room for the bed, plus closets, plus walk-around space.

The Andersen Ultimate as a cable-operated remote latch control, so the handle can be well out from the centre of the trailer. On the other hand, you need to (in most jurisdictions) hook up a safety chain (or cable) or two, which likely requires some significant reaching.

We had a short (60 x 74") walk-around queen in our Bigfoot and a standard walk-around queen (60 x 80") in our Lance 1995. Friends of ours have a short walk-around queen in their 23' FB Airstream. If the non-slide walk-around bed is east/west it's a short queen.

My chains require no more reaching then my latch (except you have to attach them on both sides) I don't know who suggested the reverse method to attach the chains but its great I store them hooked to the side of the bed then i just hook the to the big rings on the hitch even me 5'2" can stand on a small step stool and reach easily. But if you are unable to stand on a small step stool you might not like it but probably you wont want to climb in and out of the 5.0 loft either.
